HS Baseball Bulletin Board for 4/1/11

Games on the way for today:

*****Also don’t forget that we have Smith at Dudley at 7pm….*****

Burlington Williams at Northern Guilford 6pm…..Has the makings for a very important conference game….From what we have been seeing lately Williams has a very solid ball team and we all know what Northern can do when Austin Hardin is on the hill…..May not need to turn on the lights, let alone turn out the lights….The game starts at 6 and with Hardin on the hill, you never know, you may not need the lights, but I do know this, Williams has a quality club and they are well-coached…..

Eastern Alamance at Eastern Guilford 6pm….We know what Eastern Alamance did in football, made it all the way to the State 2-A Title Game vs. West Rowan and they are starting to put together a well-rounded athletic program in Mebane and the Eagles’ baseball team has been very tough this season, but you would think that the EG Wildcats would have an edge at home and the ‘Cats are still in the hunt for the top spot(s) in the conference….We always try and mention these guys, but you have Oakes, Hunt, Wolfe, Gunn, Hackett, Smith, Hedrick and others on the top of the dugout steps…

Ledford at Northeast Guilford 7pm…. NEG is the top team in our area and they still have Jaylin Davis, Harrison Phillips, Caleb McCann and Joisel Colon all available to pitch tonight….I would hate to be the one to have to select an MVP from NEG, cause this team is very talented from top to bottom in the lineup….When these kids foul balls off in the at-bats you get to watch the ball sail into the night….Wish they had a little batting practice prior to the game, and they probably do, but it would come early…..I’d like to get out and check that out, just to see Davis, Johnny Brown, Luis Paula, Harrison Barnes, the McCanns, Colon, Jordan Brown, Milloway, Wyrick and others warming up at the plate prior to the game….

Grimsley at Southeast Guilford 7pm… Whirlies need a win…Haven’t played since last Friday night in the 7-6 loss at Dudley and all arms should be rested…SEG got a hold of Providence Grove by a 12-1 scored on Tuesday and by the numbers we have been noting, Josh Tobias is really starting to warm up….Tough lineup for SEG especially when you factor in the pitching of Dylan Shutt, now at (4-0) to start the year…..No easy outs in that SEG order and if the Falcons want to make a serious run at the Metro Title, they must continuing winning and home games are alway “must wins”……One mental note that just struck me, is that DJ Reader has now been cleared by the doctors to pitch, and could we see DJ on that hill at SEG tonight…..The talk has always been that the Southeast mound/hill is very high, and we will see if DJ, Ryan Stoneman, Quito Carrig, Sawyer Highfill or another Whirlie climbs up there tonight…I don’t know what the rest of you have to say, but the freshman Kyle Smith looked real steady in relief at Dudley last week….

Page at Western Guilford 7pm… We were talking earlier about those “must wins” and this is another prime example of one of those right here…Page won the first meeting between these two and tonight, both teams can come hard, since both haven’t been all that busy yet this week…WG did have that completion game with SA, but Page has not seen the game field yet this week and they may mean that Nick Schofield goes tonight….WG should have Brandon Ahrens ready and they kid that threw over at Smith last Monday, he looked pretty solid too…..Page has some very heavy hitters in the top of that batting order with Nail looking to get on then Sandlin, Schofield, Reynolds or Syndor will try and get him and the rest around the bases…..

Ragsdale at Southwest Guilford 7pm…Ragsdale is the team on the “rise”…Just beat SWG 10-0 back on Monday and does this mean that Matt Orth will take over for the Cowboys tonight and try and rustle up the Tigers into the Corrall….Orth could shut down some teams on his own, but the Tigers may have other ideas….SWG will need arm help and hitting help from Orth and Dale, Miller, Geoghegan, Kellam and others, while Ragsdale is now getting strong contributions from Tyler Southcott, Duncan Sparks, Trey Swaim and the entire Tiger team, as Ragsdale has it sights set on moving into second place in the conference….”Tiger Time Again Tonight”….Don’t tell that to the Cowboy fans, cause this is one of the biggest rivalries in the county and that fact goes almost unknown, to most sports followers….

High Point Central at Northwest Guilford 7pm… HPC improved to (4-7) after last night’s win over Southern Guilford and with the win, the Bison matched their win total from all of last season…..NWG, behind Ketaon Haack, 10-runed Central back on Tuesday and now we see if HPC can call on or will call on Trevor Gay to settle the storm and settle the score, tonight at NWG….NWG can come at you with Duncan Everett or Ben Schmucker and Stephen Plante can give you some innings from the bullpen, but the key will how quickly NWG gets hot at the plate with Kuxhausen, Schumucker, Everett, Haack and others up at the top of the order and don’t forget Adam Swim and Bellenkes a little lower in the order…..But, that is a pretty solid group with your top four hitters….HPC has young hitters with Cornwell, Johnson, Smith and Gay all coming through last night….Seth Beane wants to show well along with Lucas Hess when the Bison face NWG tonight….

North Forsyth at Southern Guilford 7pm….Don’t know much about this matchup, but I do know this, Southern is hungry for a win after falling 17-5 to NEG Tuesday and then 11-2 to HPC last night……

Also around the county area….
Westchester Country Day vs. Salem Baptist
Oak Ridge at Cedar Ridge
Greensboro Day School at Ravenscroft 5pm
McMichael at Rockingham County 5pm
Morehead at Western Alamance 6:30pm
Trinity at High Point Andrews 7:30pm….
