Women’s Tennis Final – Sweet Briar 7, Guilford 2

SWEET BRIAR, Va. – Host Sweet Briar College improved to 8-2 on the year with a 7-2 Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) women’s tennis win over Guilford College Friday.

The Vixens (4-2 ODAC) gained an early 2-1 lead with two narrow doubles wins decided by a tie-breaking set. Krista Maldonado and Jessica Bronner scored a 9-8 (7-4) triumph over the Quakers’ Mackey Wesner and Natalie Sutton at first doubles. Sweet Briar’s Ariel Taylor and Sarah Manter defeated Guilford’s Nina Bollag and Liz Killion in the second flight by an identical score.

Guilford’s Adelaide Ayres and Anne Mogavero claimed an 8-6 third-doubles triumph.

Taylor, the 20th-ranked player in the Mar. 17 Campbell’s/Intercollegiate Tennis Association Division III South Atlantic Region, scored an easy 6-0, 6-0 win over Wesner at first singles. The Vixens did not drop a singles set to the Quakers (5-8, 3-4 ODAC), save at fifth singles, where Guilford’s Liz Killion downed Manter, 6-2, 6-2.

Guilford returns to action Sunday (4/3) at league-rival Emory & Henry College at 2:00 p.m.
