GUILFORD’S PITTMAN EARNS ALL-STATE BASKETBALL HONOR
Greensboro, N.C. –* Guilford College’s *Josh Pittman
(Archdale, N.C./Trinity)* earned a spot on the 2011 North Carolina
Collegiate Sports Information Association (NCCSIA) College Division Men’s
Basketball Team, the organization announced Monday. *Pittman’s* selection
marks the fifth straight season a Guilford student has been so honored.
The all-star units are comprised of basketball student-athletes
from North Carolina’s NCAA Division II, NCAA Division III and NAIA
institutions. The state’s sports information directors nominated
student-athletes for the teams, which were selected by NCCSIA members.
NCCSIA was founded in 2002 and its first all-state basketball teams were
released in 2005.
*Pittman*, a 6-1, 160-pound guard, became Guilford’s first
sophomore since *Ben Strong ‘08* to earn First Team All-Old Dominion
Athletic Conference (ODAC) basketball recognition this year.
*Pittman*averaged 18.1 points per game, which ranked third in the
league, along with
3.8 rebounds and 2.3 assists per outing. He led the ODAC and ranked
34thnationally with 2.9 three-pointers per contest. His .835
free-throw
percentage is the league’s third-best figure. *Pittman* led Guilford’s
scorers 17 times this season and had 11 20-point games. His 34-point
showings at Washington and Lee University and Manchester College this season
represent his career high. *Pittman* averaged 18.3 points per game in 16
ODAC contests and claimed the league’s Player of the Week Jan. 10.
*Pittman* helped coach *Tom Palombo’s *Quakers to a 16-10 (10-6
ODAC) overall record on the season. Guilford finished fourth in the league’s
regular-season standings and reached the ODAC tournament quarterfinals. The
Quakers won five games against 2011 NCAA Division III Tournament
participants, including second-ranked and previously unbeaten Virginia
Wesleyan College. *Palombo* will return as many as 11 letter winners to
Guilford next season, including *Pittman*.
