Golf News – Guilford Retains Top Spots In Division III Polls

GREENSBORO, N.C. — Guilford College’s men’s golf team remains in first place in the NCAA Division III Golf World/Nike Golf Coaches’ Poll after competing in the 40th Camp Lejeune Intercollegiate Mar. 25-27. The Quakers earned 11 of the 16 first-place votes to stay atop the Golf World/Nike Golf Coaches’ Poll, released Wednesday. Guilford also stands first in the latest Golfstat.com NCAA Division III Relative Rankings.

The Quakers’ three-round score of 884 earned 13th place in the 40th Camp Lejuene Intercollegiate. Sophomore Noah Ratner (Asheville, N.C./Asheville) topped the Quakers, finishing in a share of 11th place with a three-under 213. Junior teammate Mat Hennick (Kenmore, Wash./Inglemoor (Skagit Valley College)) shot 218, good for a share of 32nd place in the 163-man field.

Ratner leads the Quakers with a 72.95 stroke average through 19 rounds. Hennick stands second at 73.32, followed by freshman Alex Wise (Eden, N.C./Carlisle School (Va.)) at 75.63.

First-year head coach Corey Maggard’s squad returns to action Apr. 11-12 at the Emory Spring Invitational at the Stonemont Golf Course in Stone Mountain, Ga. Guilford will host the 2011 NCAA Division III Men’s Golf Championships May 10-13 at the Grandover Resort.
