  1. I was one of the lucky ones that had Dr. Reece for a professor and as a mentor. I talked to him on a regular basis even after my years at GC. He always wanted to know what I was doing and where I was coaching. Calvin (Kevin) Hunt didn’t have the opportunity to play for Coach Reece but he was the AD when we were in school together.

  2. Very good assessment, and from what I was able to deduct, Dr. Reece was a very smart cookie and in many ways he and Jim Locke, I think it was, did a very good job of keeping that school rolling in that time period….

For some reason, Dr. Reece reminds me of the principal in the movie Hoosiers….The man that helped Norman Dale coach the team and I believe he was at one time the coach of the team and then went into administration at Hickory High with the Huskers….The man that helped Dale had a heart attack one night and had to leave the team on the way to the State Title run, but for some reason Dr. Reece reminds me of that man from the movie Hoosiers….

Who knows, but we do know this, Dr. Reece did a lot of good at GC and I would like to hear from more of his students and former players….Talked to former GC player and now GDS coach Freddy Johnson last night and he was hit hard by the news…..
