Golf Results – Guilford Third After One Round of Emory Spring Invitational

STONE MOUNTAIN, Ga. – Sophomore Noah Ratner shot a three-over-par 73 to help top-ranked Guilford College to third place after the first of two rounds Emory University’s Spring Invitational at the Stonemont Golf Club.

The Quakers shot 299 and share third place with Oglethorpe University, four shots behind leader and defending tournament champion Greensboro College (295). The host Eagles ‘A’ team shot 298 and stands second in the 17-team field. Patrick Davidson’s even-par 70 leads the 89-man field and helped Centre College to fifth place at 300.

Guilford’s Mat Hennick and Dusty Roberts (Reidsville, N.C./Rockingham County) both finished with opening rounds of 75, which sits 15th individually. J.T. Thomas and Alex Wise (Eden, N.C./Carlisle School (Va.)) both shot 76 and share 21st place. Playing as an individual, rookie Jon Montgomery (Germanton, N.C./South Stokes) shot 80 and is in 52nd place.

Greensboro’s Michael Elder is in second place after Monday’s opening round of 71, one shot better than teammate Josh Nichols. Nichols shares third place on the individual leader board with three others, including Centre’s Grant Hinton.

Guilford is ranked first in the latest Golf World/Nike Golf Division III Coaches’ Poll and in the Golfstat.com Division III Relative Rankings. This week’s tournament features six of the top-11 teams in the Golf World Poll, including second-ranked Methodist University, which shot 308 and is in sixth place after one round.

Tuesday’s second and final round begins Tuesday morning at 9:00 a.m. with a shotgun start.
