Tough loss by Greensboro Grasshoppers in Wednesday day game at NewBridge Bank Park(Solid outing by Winters, but nothing to show for it)

Lakewood, N.J. BlueClaws 7
Greensboro Grasshoppers 5

WP:Tyler Knigge(1-1)
LP:Sean Watson(1-1)
GSO(18-14)/LWD(15-17)
HR:LWD-Jim Murphy #9 and RBI’s go to 22……

Hoppers up 5-2 headed to the top of the 8th inning and the gave up one run there and surrendered 4 runs in the top of the 9th inning, to lose 7-5 to Lakewood…..

Closer/stopper Sean Watson was in the game in the 8th and later in the 9th he gives up his first run of the year, gets tagged with the blown save and then goes on to take the loss….Tough day for Watson…..Hoppers starter Kyle Winters had the win in hand, when he left the game after 7 complete innings, giving up just the 2 runs on two hits and the big blow off of Winters was that home run by Big Jim Murphy…..After that Winters settled down and pitched superbly allowing just one hit, through the next 6 inning……Winters walked one and struck out three BlueClaws and took the ‘Claws down, one-two-three in four of his final six frames……

Solid effort by the Hoppers early with key hits by Isaac Galloway, Danny Black and Ryan Fisher, but Christian Yelich was held in check really for the first time this season at home, being held hitless going 0-4, but he did produce one RBI, with an infield ground ball….Marcell Ozuna collected another hit to extend his current hitting streak to four game and he showed some excellent defensive skills in the outfield…..Joe Bonadonna added a key bunt single for the Grasshoppers….

Game over and this one is gone for today, but the same two teams will load it up again on Thursday night, at NewBridge Bank Park at 7pm, in the final game of the four-game set with GSO and LWD…..Hoppers now (12-4) at home this season….Again, a solid start by Kyle Winters today and Jay Rogers(6’7) will get his chance to help the home team on Thursday evening…..

  1. Thanks for the recap. Had no idea what had happened there at the end of the game–working away today–but your recap gives me what I’m looking for. As always appreciate your updates.
