Granted, Grant wishes things might have gone differently, but he will make the most of his opportunities and High Point Central receiver will now play ball for Shaw in the fall

from Michael Lindsay and the High Point Enterprise at www.hpe.com:

HIGH POINTThe recruiting process did not pan out exactly as High Point Central wide receiver Derek Grant might have liked. But he made the best of it.

While a handful of teammates signed in the fall, Grant remained patient, open to offers and eventually found a good fit in NCAA Division-II Shaw University, with which he recently signed.

“I feel great,” Grant said. “Shaw’s a comfortable place. They made me feel at home. They have a really good football team, which actually won the CIAA last year. The coaching staff, players – everything – they made me feel at home.”

Grant had interest from schools that included St. Augustine’s, Virginia Union and Livingstone. But Grant, the son of James and Danielle Grant of High Point, said Shaw stood out for its campus atmosphere and football tradition.

Great kid from a super family with loads of support and all you receivers out there just wish you could have had a quarterback like Grant did, in Drew Adams, to get you the ball back in high school….Grant with super hands, excellent routes and he will look to shore up his overall speed at Shaw in the fall….From High Point Central to Shaw Univeristy, don’t be surprised if you see this young man in the NFL one day, after he is done with college……

  1. For 3 seasons watching NWG practice for High Point Central, all the defensive practice was set up to stop Grant! I bet that will be the case for the entire CIAA when they face this young man! Good Luck Derek!
