Slack(SWG), Crawford(Dudley) and Walker(Grimsley) step up big for UNCG in Friday night baseball win at Wofford

SPARTANBURG, S.C. – Warren Slack(Southwest Guilford High School) pitched six strong innings before making way to Jarett Miller who struck out seven of the nine batters he faced as UNCG defeated Wofford, 3-0, on Friday evening at Russell C. King Field.

Due to Elon’s win over Furman and College of Charleston’s loss to Samford on Friday, UNCG has locked up the No. 2 seed in next week’s Southern Conference Tournament in Charleston, S.C. The Spartans will face Furman, the seventh seed, at 9 a.m. on Wednesday.

Slack(SWG) pushed his season record to 7-1 as he struck out seven batters and gave up just six hits in his six innings of work. Miller pitched the final three innings to pick up his third save of the year as he didn’t allow a hit to go along with his seven strikeouts.

Cash Collins (8-4) was credited with the loss after allowing three runs (two earned) on eight hits in 7 1/3 innings of work.

Ray Quinones, Drew Gehringer and Ray Crawford(Dudley High School) each had two hits to lead UNCG (32-18, 20-8 SoCon) and Crawford added an RBI. Cody Walker(Grimsley High School) also had an RBI single for the Spartans.
