No suicide note, but former Duke University basketball captain Tom Emma died on Tuesday, after leaping to his death from the 12th floor, of a New York City building….

I saw Tom Emma play in one of those Duke Blue-White scrimmages in Coach K’s first year, and it was held in the Bob Sawyer Gymnasium, over at Grimsley High School…..

I played with Tom in a couple of all star games on Long Island. He was a year younger than me, but at the time he was the best player on Long Island. He was the all time leading scorer on Long Island. He was a really good guy who had incredible range on his jumper and also had pretty good hops. He also broke up a potential fight between myself and Kenny Dennard at a frat party at Duke. Dennard would have pummeled me so I am glad he stepped in. I am sad to hear of his passing, but I will always remember that sweet jump shot.
