Greensborosports.com’s Dennis White talks football with Page Pirate coach Kevin Gillespie

Dennis White interviewed Coach Kevin Gillespie (Head Coach) at Walter Hines Page
High School. Coach Gillespie stated that “His team is getting better and better
each year. Hardworking blue caollar football team.” Page is coming off of a 10-3
season in 2010. With a play-off loss to Butler. Coach G said “Butler is the King
of the 4A.” With 16 Page starters returning, Gillespie feels that if these guys
want it bad enough and learned from our lost last year, this can possibly be the
team to get the job done. Five starters need to shine for Page to get the Job
done. These starters consist of; QB: James Summers, WR: Orlando Hatfield, RB:
Drew Rodgers, DB: Ed Britt and Hickman.

QB; James Summers has verbally commited to North Carolina State. Coach G
reported that “Summers is one of the hardest workers on the team, a field
general, an active listener, and does what he is asked to do.” With all this
being said Coach G is looking forward to James to have another great season.

WR; Orlando Hatfield, “Came on strong in the middle of the season during the
Page vs Dudley game. He displayed a great performance in that game and became
the reciever that we all knew he could be.” Coach G announced “If he could pick
up where he left off last year there is no telling where this team can go.”

RB; Drew Rodgers is said to be “One of the strongest kids at the shcool.” “He
works hard and gives 100% day in and day out. We are expecting Drew to do BIG
things for us this season” Coach G added.

“Nonetheless, with DB Ed Britt leading the defensive charge and Hickman tagging
right along with him I am expecting even BIGGER things from our defense.” -Coach
G
DB; Ed Britt is a “very smart young man, on and off of the field and knows and
loves how to play hard nose football.”-Coach G While, Hickman coming in at the
middle of the season led the team in tackles.

Page is now in their summer workouts. Three days of practice per week and
scheduled 7 on 7 with local teams. Page has been invited to three 7 on 7 thus
far. A 7 on 7 at Elon college, Mel Kiper, and the Holt Brothers 7 on 7 at
Eastern Guilford High School.
Dennis commented to Coach G “With 16 starters returning, Page is his choice to
finish first in the 4A Metro conference. Coach G laughed and remarked “That’s
what you reporters say, we just want to play football.”

  1. Word on the street is the Stadik Twins might be transferring from Western Guilford to Page……Any Truth to this?

  2. Had heard that talk in previous years and this time it might just be more summertime rumormill activity…..Others may know othewise…..Stadniks plan on being at whatever school they choose to attend for just mid-August until mid-December and then on to Columbia, South Carolina to join the Gamecocks, in January 2012…..

  3. Stadnik brothers won’t be coming to Page…Had heard that they would like to have played at Page, but they didn’t want to do that to Coach Causey…So, don’t look for them to be transferring, plus they would have to physically change addresses, and I had heard that their parents just ain’t going to do that just for their last year of high school…

Now, on a side note, if it were legit, then I’m sure Page would love to have them…Those two would really help put Page over the top for sure….

  4. I heard Jacob Green already transferred to Page from Western. 6’4 255lb DT. Any truth to this?

  5. I have heard that on Green from two very reliable football followers/people and decided that I would not be the one to bring it up, but Jacob Green will be at Page HS this year, unless there is a last minute change and he will be a very sought-after defensive lineman(by many colleges)…….
