Guilford College football still bringing new players in:Five more student-athletes ready to move on to the Quaker Campus

GREENSBORO, N.C. – Guilford College head football coach Chris
Rusiewicz announced
the intention of five more incoming students to play football for the
Quakers Monday. All five students have made their deposit to the college and
will enroll for classes beginning in August. They make up part of
Rusiewicz’s first recruiting class at Guilford since he took over the
Quakers’ program in January.

Owen Bridges (Roanoke Rapids, N.C.) lettered twice under coach Russell
Weinstein at Roanoke Rapids High School. The 6-2, 160-pound kicker/punter
earned honorable mention All-Northern Carolina Athletic Conference (NCAC)
recognition after making 65 of 69 extra points and his lone field-goal
attempt for the Yellow Jackets. Roanoke Rapids reached the state 2A
playoffs and captured the NCAC title in Bridges’ junior and senior seasons.
He also averaged 34 yard per punt and lettered twice in basketball. Bridges
intends to study exercise and sport sciences at Guilford.

Brandon Cambra (Lucama, N.C.) lettered three times for head coach Randy
Raper at James B. Hunt High School. The 5-10, 210-pound two-way lineman
twice garnered First Team All-Big East Conference honors and helped the
Warriors to two league titles. He was Hunt’s Offensive Lineman of the Year
and a Wilson Daily Times All-Area pick in 2010 when the team posted a 12-3
record and reached the state 3AA East Region final. Cambra was one of the
linemen who blocked for all-state running back Caleb Driver, who set the
school record with 1,989 rushing yards in 2010.

Jacob Goss (Oxford, N.C.) lettered four years at J.F. Webb High School for
coach Brian Currin’s team. The 6-1, 240-pound offensive lineman twice
received All-Carolina 3A Conference recognition. He also lettered once with
the wrestling and lacrosse squads. Goss’ high school teammate, Tyler Eller,
is also headed to Guilford.

John Scott (Garner, N.C.) started three years for coach Robert Senseney at
Knightdale High School and joins high school teammate Rod Walker, Jr., as a
Guilford football recruit. The 6-foot, 200-pound linebacker won his team’s
Defensive Player of the Year Award in 2009 after posting a Greater Neuse
River Conference-best 128 tackles. The two-time team captain was one of nine
North Carolina students to participate in the 2010 U.S. Army National
Combine where he received a two-star rating from Scout.com. Scott intends to
study sport management at Guilford.

Satiir Stevenson (Roselle, N.J.) lettered three years under at Abraham Clark
High School and earned Second Team All-New Jersey Group II honors as a
linebacker for coach Kenny Wiggins in 2010. The 5-11, 180-pounder also
played quarterback and captured All-Union County and All-Mountain Valley
Conference recognition. On defense, Stevenson averaged 8.1 tackles per game
in 2010. Under center, the team captain passed for 1,024 yards and 12
touchdowns and also ran for 202 yards. He also lettered with the basketball
team and intends to study sport management at Guilford.

The group looks to help Rusiewicz’s Quakers starting Sept. 3 with the 2011
season opener against Greensboro College. Kickoff for the 15th annual Gate
City Soup Bowl is 1:00 p.m. at Grimsley High School’s Jamieson Stadium.
