Smith Golden Eagles stand tall today in 7 on 7 vs. WS Reagan

The Smith Golden Eagles stood tall today, in their 7 on 7 scrimmage versus Winston-Salem Regan, on the practice field at Ben L. Smith High School…

Smith was led on offense by the senior quarterback #12 Kaylen Pratt, the left-handed signal caller and Mr. Pratt did a very good job of finding a variety of receivers open in #81 Trey Lennon, #84 Kiandre Thompson, #4 Tyreek Ables, #85 Jermaine Squires, #32 Antonio Stimpson, #52 Marlon Hughes, #6 Omar Foust and before he hurt his thumb/hand #7 Myles Norris…..

Smith has a lot of kids that Pratt can get the ball to and this should help the Golden Eagles open up their offense this season….Smith topped WS Regan 48-14 when the two teams met in Winston-Salem, last Thursday June 16 and today we were looking at a 5-2(30-12) Smith advantage, five touchdowns to two, when they went into the four down series and no extra points were attempted…..

Most of the same names that I mentioned on offense are out there in the key positions on defense for Smith and across the middle you’ll see Thompson, Hughes and Stimpson and they will be as good as any of your top defenders in the county…..Norris at DB, Foust at DB, Ables should be at DB and you have a very fast Smith defense…….

Coach Josh McGee, the first year WS Reagan Raider head coach, that came to over to Reagan from West Forsyth, where he was a top assistant, Coach McGee, the former West Forsyth HS and Winston-Salem State University Ram quarterback; he will do a good job of getting Reagan headed into the right direction and he will have his team primarily as a hard-nosed, but quick running team……

Reagan will be OK, cause Coach McGee has the background and he will do the work necessary to make WS Reagan a competitive program/team……

Smith is in the neighborhood right now….Smith will have more depth than they have had in previous years, but they will need to keep those top level skill position players healthy, in order to be in the hunt for the Metro 4-A Title this season……Smith should be ready to battle for no worse than a top-four spot in the Metro 4-A, again, if they can keep the players that we have been mentioning healthy and on the field, for the majority of the game…….Page is the team to catch this season and it will not be easy for Page to run the table in the Metro Conference….Smith will be a force with Pratt at the helm(QB) and Thompson, Hughes, Norris, Stimpson, Ables, Lennon, Foust and Squires all in the mix to make Smith a key contender and based upon what we saw today, the Smith Golden Eagles will right there and ready to deliver some season determining blows, once the pads go on and the popping begins and that won’t be long…..

Smith will be intense and some of these kids now have four years of experience under their belt and Coach Rodney Brewington likes what he is seeing, early in this pre-season……

A brief look at how Smith would set up the offense….
QB Kaylen Pratt
RB Marlon Hughes
FB Tevin Tatum
WR Tyreek Ables
WR Trey Lennon
TE Kiandre Thompson
Smith has some of the veteran linemen returning from last season and they will in good shape up front…..At those skill positions on offense the Golden Eagles have some depth, so they will be able to get and run quality men in and out of their lineup….It all comes down to the health factor and that applies to all teams, you need to stay healthy and have your top men available at all times…..

  1. There sure is a lot of talk about Page and Smith this summer! Looks like no one is giving Dudley any love this summer! I think they might surprise some people this fall.

  2. We have a report/update due in here on Dudley this afternoon from Coach Dennis White….Dennis spoke with Panther Coach Steven Davis back on Monday afternoon and that report is due here today…..Dudley has not been in any 7 on 7’s yet this summer, but they will be at Eastern Guilford for the Holt Brothers along with EG, Page and HP Central this Saturday…..

Early observers are saying that Smith will be right there with Dudley again this season and it should be interesting……Big rivalry between those two…..
