State basketball history is gone, after a bus wreck in Raleigh…..Lorenzo Charles grabbed the errant/air ball shot/pass by Dereck Whittenburg and slammed it home for the game-winnng dunk, in the Wolfpack’s win over the Houston Cougars, on a Monday night at The Pit in New Mexico, back in 1983…….
Raleigh, N.C. — The driver killed in a bus wreck on Interstate 40 in Raleigh Monday is former Wolfpack basketball standout Lorenzo Charles, WRAL News has learned.
Charles, 47, led North Carolina State University to victory with a game-winning dunk in the 1983 NCAA Championship game against the University of Houston. He had a brief career in the National Basketball Association with the Atlanta Hawks in the mid-80s.
