GREENSBORO, N.C. – Guilford College head football coach Chris
Rusiewicz announced
the intention of five more incoming students to play football for the
Quakers Tuesday. All five students have made their deposit to the college
and will enroll for classes beginning in August. They make up part of
Rusiewicz’s first recruiting class at Guilford since he took over the
Quakers’ program in January.

Hunter English (Greensboro, N.C.) lettered three years under head coach
Chris Causey at nearby Western Guilford High School. The 5-6, 150-pound
linebacker earned All-Metro Conference and team Defensive Most Valuable
Player laurels with the Hornets. English ranked second in the state in
total tackles (156) for the 2010 season, which stands second in school
history. He also lettered four years in wrestling and twice earned
all-conference recognition. English lettered twice for the Hornets’ baseball
team. He intends to study history at Guilford.

Adam Roach (Lexington, N.C.) lettered three years under head coach Mark
Hoover at Central Davidson High School. The 5-11, 190-pound inside
linebacker led the Spartans in tackles in 2009 and 2010 and graduated with
the school record for sacks in a season (14). Roach intends to study
education and history at Guilford.

Mitch Stratton (Lynchburg, Va.) lettered two years under head coach Jon
Berlin at Rustburg High School. The 6-1, 250-pound two-way lineman earned
honorable mention All-Seminole District recognition and the school’s Most
Outstanding Male Athlete for the 2010 fall season at Rustburg. He lettered
one year in both basketball and lacrosse and intends to study chemistry and
sport management at Guilford.

Kyle Watkins (Oxford, N.C.) lettered three years under head coach Brian
Currin at J.F. Webb High School. The 6-1, 230-pound two-way lineman earned
All-Carolina-6 Conference laurels three times for his play on offense. He
also lettered two years as a baseball player. Watkins joins *Justin
Williams-Blackwell* and *Alan Harris* as former J.F. Webb students on the
Quakers’ roster. Webb’s *Tyler Eller* and *Jacob Goss* are also among
Guilford’s football commitments for the 2011 campaign.

Josh Williams (Durham, N.C.) lettered three years under head coach Mike
Briggs at Jordan High School. The 5-9, 210-pound running back/linebacker
earned First Team All-Piedmont Athletic Conference-6 honors as well as his
team’s Most Outstanding Running Back Award in 2010. Williams also lettered
three years with the baseball team and secured first-team all-conference
recognition in 2011. He was a starting fullback on his Pop Warner football
team, which won the 2003 national championship. Williams’ cousin, Deunta
Williams, is a former safety for UNC Chapel Hill’s football team. Josh
Williams intends to study computer information systems at Guilford.

The group looks to help Rusiewicz’s Quakers starting Sept. 3 with the 2011
season opener against Greensboro College. Kickoff for the 15th annual Gate
City Soup Bowl is 1:00 p.m. at Grimsley High School’s Jamieson Stadium.
