High School Football Predictions with Camp Week and Practice starting in just 4 days

Camp Week continues with some schools going up to 4 hours, with workouts in the weightroom for two hours and then two more hours of practice and thas is not all that uncommon…..You have the time and you can use it and if you do, just think how much more ready your team will be, when the NCHSAA state-mandated conditioning practices get going officially, on Saturday……

Now is the time to get the work in, with the first games of the season due up on Friday August 19 and when you start on July 30, that gives you 17 days to get it all in/done before the first game and that doesn’t include your scrimmages and that will take at least two or three of those 17 days….The teams that have been working hard all summer long, will definitely be in the advantage….

Predictions continue and today we will look at some of the schedules too….

Piedmont Triad 4-A Conference predicted order of finish from www.ncpreps.com:

1)Northwest Guilford
2)East Forsyth
3)Ragsdale
4)High Point Central
5)Glenn
6)Southwest Guilford
7)WS Parkland

We have talked quite a bit about NWG, Ragsdale, High Point Central and SWG already, but the team that could challenge for the conference title could well be East Forsyth…..Glenn lost top RB Josh Hawkins and the Bobcats look to be doing some major rebuilding, but as for the other team from Forsyth, East, they will be loaded, but still young at quarterback and that appears where NWG has the major edge over the rest of the conference, with senior Matt Pawlowski and his experience of being a 2-3 starter already…..

East Forsyth has one of the area’s best kickers in Chad Hollingsworth and that should be a real plus for the Eagles…..The QB battle at East will be between senior Jalen Day and junior Garrison Duncan….Top lineman include Zach Price and Nathan Fiore….Amon Giles returns as the #1 RB for East, with over 950 yards on the ground last year and Jarrod Coleman should be the team’s top tackler….One name that gets your attention from Glenn, is that of lineman Aaron Reavis(6’3/220) and you have to wonder if he is related to NWG basketball coach, Lee Reavis……

NWG reamins your favorite, with the core of Pawlowski, Baxter and Dillon and Ragsdale can make a major run, as new QB Garrison Herndon gets used to being the varsity starter and HP Central must decide who will be their starting QB, with either Justin Johnson or Woody Cornwell taking over for the now-departed Drew Adams(one of the best in Central history) and then SWG has to find way to move ahead of Glenn in those conference standings…..

We’ll look closer at the Piedmont Triad Conference schedules tomorrow….

Today a look at the Metro 4-A Schedules……

The Page Pirates:
August 19th at Davie County….Aug. 26th Northern Guilford at home…September 2nd High Point Central at home….Sept. 9 at Ragsdale…..Sept. 16 at Western Guilford….Sept. 23 Open….Sept. 30 at Grimsley….October 7 at Smith….Oct. 14 Southern Alamance at home….Oct. 21 at Dudley….Oct. 28 Southeast Guilford at home….
*****If Page stays healthy, the Pirates have a very good shot to go (10-0) in the regular season….Tough tests include road games at Ragsdale and Dudley….*****

Dudley Panthers:
August 19th at Southern Durham….August 26 at Ragsdale….September 2nd Northern Guilford at home….Sept. 9th Durham Hillside at home….Sept. 16th Smith at home…Sept. 23 at Southern Alamance….Sept. 30th Open…Oct. 7th Southeast Guilford at home….Oct. 14 at Western Guilford…Oct. 21 Page at home….Oct. 28 at Grimsley…..
*****Dudley might be in the (7-3) neighborhood this season with tough games with Ragsdale, Northern, Page and Smith and Dudley may have to play all of their home games on the road, if the construction on their stadium finally gets started in August……*****

Smith Golden Eagles:
August 19th Northwest Guilford at home….Aug. 26 at High Point Andrews….Sept 2nd Open….Sept. 9th Northeast Guilford…..Sept. 16 at Dudley…..Sept. 23 Southeast Guilford at home….Sept. 30th at Western Guilford….Oct. 7th Page at home…Oct. 14 at Grimsley…Oct. 21 WS Parkland at home…Oct. 28 Southern Alamance at home….
*****Smith may be looking at a (6-4) season, but a few breaks and they could go (7-3), but a few breaks in the other direction and we are talking (5-5)…..NWG, NEG, Dudley, Page very tough……*****

Western Guilford Hornets:
August 19 Northeast Guilford at home….Aug. 26 at Northwest Guilford…September 2nd Ragsdale at home…Sept. 9 at Eastern Guilford…Sept. 16 Page at home….Sept. 23 at Grimsley…Sept. 30 Smith at home….Oct. 7th at Southern Alamance…..Oct. 14 Dudley at home….Oct. 21 at Southeast Guilford….Oct. 28 Open….
*****WG was (2-9) overall last year and it will take some real work to get to (3-7) this year with NEG, NWG, Ragsdale, Page, Grimsley, Smith, Dudley all showing major resistance……*****

Southeast Guilford Falcons:
August 19th Southwest Guilford at home….Aug. 26th at Northeast Guilford….Sept. 2 Southern Guilford at home….Sept. 9 at Thomasville…Sept. 16 Grimsley at home….Sept. 23 at Smith…Sept. 30 Southern Alamance at home…Oct. 7th at Dudley….Oct. 14 Open….Oct. 21 Western Guilford at home…..Oct. 28 at Page…..
*****SEG could be looking at a (2-8) year or even at a (3-7) or maybe up to a (4-6), but when you have NEG, Thomasville, Page, Dudley, Smith, Southern Guilford and Grimsley this could be a very tough year…..All depends on the QB and RB situation for the Falcons…..*****

Grimsley Whirlies:
August 19th Ragsdale at home….Aug. Morehead at home….Sept. 2 at Northwest Guilford…..Sept. 9 at High Point Central….Sept. 16 at Southeast Guilford…..Sept. 23 Western Guilford at home…Sept. 30 Page at home….Oct. 7th East Forsyth at home…Oct. 14 Smith at home….Oct. 21 at Southern Alamance….Oct. 28 Dudley at home….
*****Grimsley is one of those rare cases of a team playing 11 games in the regular season this year, with no open dates…..The Whirlies have a shot to finish at (5-6) this season if everything falls into place for them, or they could even reach (6-5), or they could slip to (4-7) or even (3-8)….The (5-6) would be a great jump over last year’s (1-10) and the toughies will be Ragsdale, NWG, Page, East Forsyth, Smith and Dudley….*****

Southern Alamance Patriots:
August 19th Graham at home….Aug. 26 at Burlington Williams….Sept. 2 Eastern Alamance at home….Sept. 9 at Western Alamance…Sept. 16 at Eastern Randolph….Sept. 23 Dudley at home….Sept. 30 at Southeast Guilford….Oct. 7 Western Guilford at home…Oct. 14 at Page…Oct 21 Grimsley at home….Oct. 28th at Smith……

That is a whole lot for today with more due up on Wednesday……

  2. Andy,

I think NE Guilford will be a bit down this year. They lost some of their best players, because their parents moved out of the district.

  3. QB Kyle Martin, RB’s Jacob and Caleb McCann and Kicker Evan Reasor….They have players back in key positions and never underestimate a Tommy Pursley- coached team…..I think a very key game will be SG at NEG and SG might just ready to take NEG this year, but I still think we will see NEG in the playoffs going at least two rounds……Cunningham and Mosley from SG may trump Martin and McCann(Jacob) from NEG in that regular season game, but it will be BIG, real BIG, when the Rams and Storm meet this year……

  4. From what we are hearing some teams are taking the long route this week with longer practices including the weightlifting and the weightlifting is going along with practice on Monday-Wednesday-Friday…..The teams that have been working hard all summer can handle it, but a few teams are a bit behind….

Practice begins officially this Saturday July 30, and some teams will go the Midnight Madness route and hit the field at Midnight Friday night/Satruday morning…..I have been to a few of those over the years and the waiting around is no fun at all……..Waiting for 12 Midnight that is…..There is no waiting around once practice gets going…..

Some teams have been going at it in shoulder pads this week to get used to them for when they pad it up for real, but there can be no hitting, but how are you going to keep from hitting someone when you run into them??????

Everyone is just waiting for the inevitable….It is time to let the hitting begin and see who is left standing….The NCHSAA has rules, so we have to follow those, but it is time to hit or be hit……Soon enough, I suppose….

  5. I have to disagree with you on the keys for Southeast Guilford. It’s not RB and QB. They have the athletes to be successful on the offensive side of the ball. The #1 question is the same year after year. It’s play calling. Normally, the defense is solid, but they have lost the coordinator and the secondary coach in a short time span. The next question is how solid will they be on the defensive side of the ball. The kid from Ragsdale will help shore up the secondary. This team will be better than .500 and surprise a lot of people……………….CAN’T WAIT!

  6. They return Kamron Neese and couple of other kids who got some significant playing time. Fritz is an offensive line guy, so I’m confident they will be up for the challenge
