UNC Chancellor Thorp not happy that Butch Davis offered his son Drew Davis a scholarship without checking with him and AD Dick Baddour first

Just when you thought you had seen and heard it all on the UNC Investigation, there’s more and we have it for you from the Charlotte Observer on-line….

University of North Carolina chancellor Holden Thorp said today that he was disappointed that former football coach Butch Davis offered son Drew Davis a football scholarship without consulting with Thorp or UNC athletic director Dick Baddour.

Thorp added, once again, that there was no one reason for Davis’ firing July 27, but rather a “collection of problems” as UNC faces NCAA allegations of nine major violations and an Oct. 28 hearing before of the NCAA’s Committee on Infractions.

Drew Davis is a senior quarterback at East Chapel Hill High. Thorp said that with all of the controversy surrounding the program, it would have been better for Butch Davis to talk with Thorp and Baddour before offering Drew a scholarship.

  1. First of all I do not give a rat’s tail about Carolina but this is ridiculous.
If then Coach Davis wants to offer a high school player a scholarship even if it is his son then the Chancellor and AD should have absolutely ZERO sayso in the matter. The football head coach should be able to offer a scholarship to whatever high school players he thinks can help his team. The only issue here should be if the kid could qualify academically to get into UNC or another ACC school. If that is not a problem then the coach can recruit whomever he wants regardless of who the kid’s parents are.
