In essence, Lafayette and Greensboro, N.C., played a Colt World Series game Tuesday night in Loeb Stadium that could best be described as a glorified exhibition.

Because of this event’s format, Lafayette and South Zone champion Greensboro already had clinched berths in tonight’s semifinals.
And because the loser would slide into the 7:30 p.m. slot — the starting time that attracts the best crowd — some tourney officials weren’t concerned if Lafayette was defeated Tuesday night.

With a crowd of 2,152 looking on, Greensboro scored six unearned runs and pounded out 13 hits against Lafayette’s second-line pitching in an 11-8, come-from behind victory.
