Ryan Houston to start at tailback for North Carolina while James Washigton gets the nod at N.C. State

CHAPEL HILL Ryan Houston(Matthews Butler) has been limited to noncontact drills all training camp because of offseason shoulder surgery, but North Carolina’s redshirt senior tailback has insisted all month he would be ready for the Tar Heels’ opener against James Madison.

Houston apparently will be proven right Saturday, earning the starting nod Monday.

Interim coach Everett Withers said Houston, a 6-foot-2, 245-pound bruiser out of Matthews Butler High School, earned the opening nod because of his experience….

RALEIGH, N.C. — James Washington is listed as North Carolina State’s starting tailback for the Wolfpack’s opener against Liberty.

Coach Tom O’Brien on Monday revealed the pecking order in his backfield for this week. The depth chart showed fifth-year senior Curtis Underwood as Washington’s backup, and O’Brien says promising redshirt freshman Tony Creecy is the third stringer.

O’Brien says Washington is “a workhorse-type of guy” who gets stronger late in games.
