GUILFORD GOLFERS RANKED FOURTH IN PRESEASON COACHES’ POLL
Greensboro, N.C. — Guilford College’s men’s golf team opens
the season in fourth place in the first NCAA Division III *Golf World/Nike
Golf and Golf Coaches Association of America Coaches’ Poll released
Wednesday. Greensboro College, the defending national champions, is the
number-one team in the poll. The Pride earned 10 of the 14 first-place
votes. St. John’s (Minn.) University ranks second with two first-place
votes. Methodist University and Illinois Wesleyan University round out the
top five. Guilford also earned two first-place votes.
The Quakers, who finished ninth in last year’s national
tournament, return all five regulars from this 2010-11 team, including
seniors Mat Hennick (Kenmore, Wash./Inglemoor (Skagit Valley C.C.))
and Dusty
Roberts (Reidsville, N.C./Rockingham County). Junior Noah Ratner
(Asheville, N.C./Asheville) is back after earning First Team All-American
honors and the ODAC Player of the Year Award in 2011. He held the ODAC’s
best individual stroke average at 73.1.
Second-year head coach Corey Maggard’s squad opens the season
Sept. 25-27 at the Gordin Division III Preview in Howey-in-the Hills, Fla.
