GUILFORD RANKED IN PRESEASON CROSS COUNTRY POLLS

GREENSBORO, N.C.– Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) cross
country coaches tabbed Guilford College’s men’s team second and women’s team
sixth in their annual preseason polls, released Monday. Lynchburg College,
which won last year’s men’s ODAC cross country crown, was picked first in
the men’s poll while Washington and Lee University, which won last year’s
women’s ODAC title, took the top spot in women’s poll.

Guilford’s men were also ranked among the top teams in the NCAA Division
III South region by two organizations. The Quakers were tabbed fifth in the
South by the track and field website Flotrack.org and ninth in the U.S.
Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) Cross Country
South/Southeast Region Team Rankings.

The Quakers’ men’s team returns four letter winners from last year’s team,
which placed seventh among 22 teams at the NCAA Division III South/Southeast
Region Championships and second out of eight squads at the 2010 ODAC
Championships. The Quakers look forward to the return of senior *Derick
Kosgei (Eldoret, Kenya/Kipkabus Secondary (East Central))*, the defending
ODAC champion who became Guilford’s first qualifier for the NCAA Division
III Cross Country Championships a year ago. Guilford also welcomes back
sophomore *Chad Norton (Walled Lake Mich./Walled Lake)*, who received
All-South/Southeast Region recognition. Classmate *David Cason (Clemmons,
N.C./West Forsyth)* was a 2010 Second Team All-ODAC selection.

Guilford’s women have two letter winners returning from their 2010 campaign,
including sophomore *Anne Mogavero (Evansville, Ind./Reitz Memorial)*. She
ran the second-fastest six-kilometer time (25:07) in school history at last
year’s NCAA Division III South/Southeast Regional Championships. Guilford
finished sixth among seven teams at last year’s ODAC Championships.

The Quakers will host two meets this fall on its Meadows Course in the
northwest section of Guilford’s campus, including the season-opening
Guilford College X-C Carnival Sept. 3.
