College Volleyball Finals – Guilford Drops Two at Averett Cougar Classic

DANVILLE, Va. – Guilford’s volleyball team dropped its first two matches Friday at the Averett University Cougar Classic. The Quakers fell to Washington and Lee University, 25-21, 25-17, 25-16, and lost to the host Cougars, 25-21, 25-19, 27-25.

In the day’s first contest, rookie Brittany DeCesare had a team-high seven kills and Emma Gunn added six. Taylor Whitley set up a club-best 20 assists and teammate Taylor Phillips picked up 13 digs for Guilford.

The Quakers (0-2) fell to Averett in their second match of the day. Mary Moody led Guilford with eight kills and Malikah French chipped in with five putaways. Whitley registered 16 assists and Phillips totaled 15 digs.

Guilford concludes play in the tournament Saturday with matches versus Southern Virginia and Peace University.
