College Men’s Soccer Final – Oglethorpe 2, Guilford 1

DEMOREST, Ga. – Aaron Walker’s free kick in the 68th minute broke a 1-1 tie and sent Oglethorpe University to a 2-1 soccer win over Guilford College Saturday night in the Piedmont College Fall Invitational.

Walker’s tally capped a wild five-minute span that saw each of the game’s three goals scored. Ben Robertson scored the match’s first tally at 63:03 off a Carlos Gaston assist. Just under two minute later, the Quakers’ Freddy Gomez netted an equalizer off a free kick to the far corner.

Peter Truitt made seven saves for Guilford (0-1) while Frank Petersen had four stops for the Stormy Petrels (1-0), who outshot Guilford, 17-13.

Guilford plays tournament host Piedmont Sunday at 1:00 p.m.
