Spiders and Sparks(Ragsdale HS) speed past Duke Devils

They’re still blue, as in Duke Blue Devils, but it is a different kind of blue after last night’s 23-21 loss to the Richmond Spiders, at Wallace Wade Stadium, in Durham, N.C……..Something was missing and maybe it was the True Blue in Coach David Cutcliffe’s Duke football team…..Losing to Richmond? Nothing new, it happened for the third time in past six years, as the Spiders pulled the web tightly over the Devils last evening, in Durham….

Long-snapper Walt Sparks(#45-Walt Sparks), from Ragsdale High School, was in there last night for the Richmond Spiders….

from www.wralsportsfan.com:

DURHAM, N.C. — Garrett Turner rushed for a 1-yard touchdown on fourth down with 10:12 remaining to help Richmond beat Duke 23-21 on Saturday night in the season opener for both teams.

The Spiders, members of the Football Championship Subdivision, beat the Blue Devils of the ACC for the third time in the last six seasons.

Will Snyderwine missed a 28-yard field-goal attempt that would have given Duke the lead with 1:43 remaining. And, after forcing a punt on Richmond’s last possession, his 60-yard kick on the final play of the game also came up short.
