Page at Ragsdale this Friday night could be the Biggest Game of the Year!

This is going to be a big one…..There’s no doubt about it….Could be the Biggest Game of the Year…..Both teams, Page and Ragsdale are (3-0)…..Page has not beaten Ragadale in recent years…To say that Ragsdale has owned the Page Pirates would be an understatement…Huge comeback by Ragsdale to win with the on-sides kick, then the game-winning field goal by Brad Davis to take the game 38-35, in 2010…..

This will be the big one…..Page has the BIG Guns with James Summers, Drew Rogers and Orlando Hatfield….Ragsdale has a new QB in Garrison Herndon, plus the Tigers have a couple of farily new runningbacks in Marquez Eleazor and Xavier Jones….Eleazor played quite a bit last year, but he wasn’t the featured back…..Ragsdale has receivers too, in Anthony Stewart, Eric Romer, Karson Redfern and others….Ragsdale has a big defensive line up front, that allows their linebackers in Grimes and Sparks, to move around and make plays…..

This has the makings on the surface for a great game….But the Biggest Game of the Year???

Bigger than Smith at Dudley, due up on September 16? Smith could be headed to Dudley at (0-3) and Dudley might be a host for the Golden Eagles, with a record of (0-4)…..

Bigger than Page at Grimsley coming up on September 30?? Page-Grimsley and Smith-Dudley are big rival games, but Page-Grimsley has not been all that close in recent years, since Coach Gillespie took over and began to turn around the Pirates…..

Page-Ragsdale this Friday, bigger than Smith-Dudley and Page-Grimsley and even bigger than this week’s Northwest Guilford at Northern Guilford game???

I would say, YES, YES and YES and would suggest that you arrive in Jamestown early on Friday night…..

Page-Ragsdale is BIGGER than the others, ’cause it is a Battle of the Unbeatens……

Could Northwest Guilford at Ragsdale, coming up later on in the season, end up being Bigger than Page-Ragsdale this Friday?

It could, but for that to happen Ragsdale will have to beat Page this Friday and NWG will have to beat Northern and Ragsdale and NWG will both have to hit the field on that Friday night in Jamestown, with spotless/unbeaten records…..

For that to happen, Ragsdale must beat Page this Friday and if not, the city of Jamestown may take on a whole new meaning, if say James(town) Summers and his Pirates leave the Ragsdale campus, with a Pirate victory……..

Page at Ragsdale this Friday, the Biggest Game of the Year?????

I’m saying YES and what about the rest of you out there?

  1. Of course tomorrow night’s game is going to be the game of the year! Also….if it’s any indication of what I’m seeing @ this JV game, it might just live up to the hype. BTW- Page is up 7 to nothing but of course we won’t sleep. I remember what happened to us last year. It ain’t over ’til the fat lady sings!

  2. I remember in 2009 when undefeated Dudley came to play undefeated Ragsdale. Ragsdale thought that was the biggest game of the year. Unfortunately It wasn’t. As Dudley ended Ragsdale’s season in the Playoffs later that same year. I know all the Ragsdale coaches remember this. They will remind the players that this is the biggest game of the week not the year. A win will mean nothing toward either team’s conference and playoff goals.

Having said that these Tigers have fastest overall team speed they have had in years. They are much faster overall than the 08 and 09 teams that combined to go 26-2. I think Page will have their hands full. Ragsdale beat them last year at Page and this years team is much better. They are IMO AS GOOD AS THE 2009 team which destroyed an undefeated Page team. It should be a lot of fun!

  3. Don’t know Dan but he knows the Tigers pretty well. True, it is the biggest game of the week, not the year.

  4. @ Dan:

This Ragsdale team might be better then the team is 2009. But you are implying that this years Page team is not any better then they were in 2009.

  5. It will be a great game tonight and great atmosphere.

The last few years that Page has played Ragsdale, Heavner has been the real deal. I know that Herndon has started off great for Ragsdale, but IMO Heavner made the difference in the last two years. The kid was money against Page every time they played. Herndon may come out tonight and sling it around the same, but Ragsdale’s success against Page the last two years had a lot to do with Heavner. People can say their defense, which is always good, but Heavner IMO was the difference maker. He kept drives alive, he made plays with his feet when he had to, and he commanded the team with calmness and leadership.

Either way, you are gonna see two improved teams. Ragsdale is better and so is Page. We will see……………….

  6. Joe – They better be.

We will see – the score was 42 to 7 after the 3rd in 09. I loved watching Luke play and he certainly played well against Page but Ragsdale could have played the Jamestown Middle QB in 09 and beat Page. Page simply could not score. Page finished with 21 with 14 against the 2 string guys. Last year BOTH of RHS’ starting linebackers were out and without a doubt Luke was the difference. Herndon will be fine. Faster RBs, bigger OL, great receivers. They are not worried.

Page may pummel RHS tonight “we will see”.

  7. Ole Joe gets riled up. God forbid something nice gets said about a Page opponent. Gotta keep that Page media machine rolling. Dan did’t imply anything negative about the Page team this year. He was taking about his team.

  8. No, I’m just creating conversation.. not putting down Ragsdale at all. I was just saying that the way the last part of his post was written, it sounded like this years Ragsdale team is way better then they were in 2009, so Page clearly isnt going to be better this year either. hence, him saying, “Page will have their hands full.”

  9. Joe you are not very good at reading my mind. Page I am sure is very good I do not doubt they are much improved. They have been fasvored to beat Ragsdale every year for the last 3 they have lost every time. They are improved from last year. Great! So has Ragsdale. Who has improved more? We will know after tonight’s game. Ragsdale’s most improved positions are on the offensive and defensive lines. I like their chances because big games are typically won in the trenches. I assume you like Page’s chances. I bet your players are feeling a lot more pressure to win than ours. Our guys know how to beat Page they have done it their Freshman, Sophmore, and Junior years – no one from Page including your coach (Trinity or Page) has ever beaten Ragsdale.

That may all change tonight. I still like our chances.

  10. Great…I guess us Pirate fans shouldnt even show up tonight, since nobody on Page (including coaches from Trinity or Page) have never beaten Ragsdale. I guess Page should be scared…OR SHOULD THEY BE MOTIVATED?

No comparison between 2009 and now, except Ragsdale is NOT better than that ’09 team…That Ragsdale defense they had was way better then…NO COMPARISON WHAT SO EVER…Ragsdale may put 49 points on Page, and if Ragsdale wins then Page will not hold down their heads, because it will be because they got beat by a good team…I personally do not believe they are better than Page, but I do believe that if Page dont execute then Ragsdale is good enough to hang 50 on them…

  11. Page is the best they have been in years. On paper this should be their year. Hopefully Ragsdale can give them a good game.

Funny how the Alma Pinnix Rockefellers have been talking all year but when someone else has something positive to say about their opponent they get their feathers ruffled.

  12. Tiger Fan said “Bring it on, Page.”

Be careful what you wish for.

page has played 3 pretty good teams so far: Davie, Northern and High Point Central. No one has been able to stop their ground attack. Summers threw the ball much better last Friday, too. So if Ragsdale is looking to put 8-9 in the box and dare Summers to throw, they may be sorry. Orlando Hatfield and Brian Quick are pretty good receivers.

Ragsdale has had the upper hand lately, they are a very good, well coached team and they’re at home. It will be a heck of a game.

I think Page is in a pretty good position to take this game. If they can stay disciplined, and play as physical as they have all season, they have a good chance of picking up a big road win. Oh, and Page has had a strong pass rush this season, and they will definitely need that tonight.

Good luck to both teams and Go Pirates.

  13. This is the game of the night and I will be there and you should too. You got no buiness going to those other games just drop what you are doing and come to this game tonight. This is where it is at. Page and Ragsdale in Jamestown near the bridge. If you are not at this game then BOO on you!

    Page’s game to lose.

    Near the bridge.

    Lydia

  14. John,

Page is the one that should be careful what they wish. Not the other way around. Sounds like to me it’s state championship or bust. Same song we have heard for years. Lots of hype no substance. Ragsdale don’t wish for wins they earn them.

  15. Page fans finally arrived. Better late than never. RHS 14 to 13 at the half. Not very impressed with Page after all the hype.

  16. Page coach finally beats Norwood. Page earned it. They beat Rags bad in 2nd half. I would caution these Pirates not to put too much into this win. It only counts for 1 win. Enjoy it but get back to work. This game really means nothing to either team’s ultimate goals.

  17. We will put whatever we want into this win…it was a big win for our program and a monkey off our back…does it mean something??? Hell yes it did and if you don’t think this game meant anything to your Ragsdale kids then you obviously didnt stay for the entire game to see the sad looks on their faces…

Will it mean something later on down the road, yes because it’s playoff position…will Ragsdale do well the rest of the season?..yes…they are a very good football team…both teams played their hearts out and both sides should be proud of their kids…

  18. I find Page fans to be the most sensitive fans in HS football. I never said both teams are not good, I never said both teams did not play with heart. I never said not to be proud. I also NEVER SAID IT MEANT NOTHING!! I did say it meant nothing to either team’s ultimate goals. THAT”S A FACT NOT AN OPINION. I bet Monday at practice Gillespie tells his kids that they have to put that game behind them and move on. Are you going to show-up and say “Hell no, we need to keep putting emphasis on the Ragsdale game!?”

I could really care less how you celebrate iit still only counts as 1 win – a big win yes – but still just 1 win. They don’t give out rings tp the winner of the Page/Ragsdale game. If they did our kids would have a fist full.

  19. Dan,

If you weren’t so sensitive then there was no need for you to reply…You remind me of one of those annoying kids who always has to have the last word…lol…

Watch the post game video from Coach G and you will see that he was talking about Western Guilford already….You said that you caution those Pirates to not put too much into the win, well it was a BIG win for the program and if our team, coaches, and fans want to be happy about it then we will…We don’t need to heed your caution warnings…The team, coaches, and fans know what the ultimate goal is and we don’t need your comments to remind us…

BTW, you call us sensitive but I seem to find that most Ragsdale fans are congratulatory with the exception of you…You ruin the classiness that the rest of your fans show…

  20. You are ridiculous. I said “enjoy it and get back to work”, and I am now classless? When did i say not to be happy about it? There’s nothing negative about my statements. Go back and re-read my posts you will see nothing negative towards Page. You read what you want into it and i guess you want it to be negative – when it’s NOT. I may not be a Page fan but I am certainly not a hater. I respect the effort all kids playing have to put into football to be successful. Gillespie says the same thing I said and he’s your hero – as he should be. I say it and I am classless? I am the sensitive one? Really? Look in the mirror.

  21. Dan,

You gotta have that last word, huh?…Seriously man, stop crying…We Page fans are sensitive, and you man are classless…You talked smack before the game making it sound like Page was going to run into the Ragsdale ’09 team again…

Quote #1 – “Joe – They better be. We will see – the score was 42 to 7 after the 3rd in 09. Lots of hype but no substance, well, I guess those kinds of statements would make anyone kind of sensitive. You talk a lot sh&^, but you cant take it when people talk it back. Again, we have moved on. Again, Ragsdale has a great team as you said they would have. Page players, fans, and coaches never doubted that, but the game was won and we were happy. We have moved on, and now its time to get prepared for Western Guilford. Western has great players, and on any given Friday any team can take a “L”.

As for you man, you still have no clue what you are talking about. Ragsdale does not have a team comparable to ’09, Luke Heavner is the QB that made that team click (Herndon may get there but is not there yet), and your two starting linebackers this year played in the game last year and who were all conference players, so don’t make it sound like you played with slouches against us.
