College Volleyball Results – Guilford Wraps Up at Greensboro Invitational

GREENSBORO, N.C. – Guilford College’s volleyball team suffered losses to tournament champion Piedmont College and Peace College Saturday on the second of two days at the Greensboro College Invitational.

After splitting two hard-fought five-set matches yesterday, Guilford substituted liberally to give its students a little more rest in a 25-11, 25-8, 25-19 loss to eventual tourney champion Piedmont College. The Quakers hit .-117 in the match and were led by Malikah French’s four kills. Taylor Phillips had 13 assists, one more than teammate Brittany DeCesare, who finished with 12. Piedmont improved to 7-1 with the win and was led by Paige Eslinger’s seven kills and 12 digs.

The Quakers fell to Peace College in their second match Saturday, 25-16, 19-25, 25-23, 25-19. Amber Lowe and Taylor Johnson both had 12 kills for the Pacers (3-6). Lauren Naugle added eight kills, six service aces and 16 digs.

Guilford seniors Laura Kopald and Emma Gunn both put away 11 kills and Taylor Whitley had 35 assists for the Quakers. Taylor Phillips, who represented Guilford on the all-tournament team, picked up 34 digs and had two service aces. French finished with nine kills, two service aces and two blocks.

The Quakers (2-7) open their home and Old Dominion Athletic Conference seasons Tuesday night (9/13) at 7:00 p.m. versus Washington and Lee University.
