GC’s Liz Widenhouse Named USA South Volleyball Rookie of the Week

(GREENSBORO, N.C.) – Greensboro freshman outside hitter Liz Widenhouse was named the USA South Volleyball Rookie of the Week on Monday.

A native of Mt. Pleasant, NC, Widenhouse posted 5.1 kills, 2.4 digs and 0.6 service aces per set last week as The Pride posted a 3-2 record. In a 3-0 win over Salem on Tuesday, Widenhouse totaled 14 kills, eight digs, seven service aces, one block and one assist.

In a 3-2 loss to Guilford, Widenhouse posted a double-double of 25 kills and 15 digs. She also added two assists, one block and one service ace. In a 3-1 loss to Piedmont, Widenhouse contributed 20 kills, six digs and three blocks.

She added another double-double performance against Peace with 28 kills and 11 digs while adding four service aces, one assist and one block to lead Greensboro to a 3-2 win. Widenhouse finished out the week in a 3-1 victory over Roanoke with a 20 kills, ten digs and three assists.

Widenhouse and The Pride will be back in action at home on Wednesday against Methodist at 7 p.m.
