College Men’s Soccer Final – Emory & Henry 3, Guilford 1

EMORY, Va. – Host Emory & Henry College scored two early goals and made them stand in a 3-1 men’s soccer win over Guilford College. Wednesday’s game marked both teams’ Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) opener.

Seb Marley set up Jon Bruno’s 11th-minute goal and then scored just over 14 minutes later for a relatively quick 2-0 Wasps’ (3-2, 1-0 ODAC) advantage.

Guilford’s Matthew Poling got the Quakers (2-2-1, 0-1 ODAC) on the board in the 34th minute with his first college goal. Josh Berry set up the score, which trimmed the Wasps’ lead to 2-1 at halftime.

Just over 11 minutes after intermission, Will Bodfish took a cross from Luis Peralta and slotted it into the goal for a 3-1 Emory & Henry advantage.

Guilford’s increased its offensive intensity and outshot the hosts, 5-1, in the final 35 minutes, but only one shot reached the target. Wasps’ goalie Justin Spencer stopped it for one of his five saves. Guilford goalie Peter Truitt made three saves on the night.

The Quakers head to Georgia for weekend games at Covenant College (9/17) and Emory University (9.18).
