College Women’s Soccer Final – Guilford 3, Greensboro 1

GREENSBORO, N.C. – Freshman Hannah Schiltz scored twice in Guilford College’s 3-1 soccer win over visiting Greensboro College Wednesday night, the Quakers’ fourth in a row.

Schiltz posted her second two-goal game in three matches and gained a share of the team goal-scoring lead with Sarah Levitt. She scored off a Levitt cross in the 16th minute, which gave the Quakers (5-2) a 1-0 halftime lead. Schiltz added an insurance tally, her sixth of the year, when Jaclyn Nucci played a ball through to a streaking Schlitz, who took the pass in stride and slipped the ball past Greensboro goalie Shireen Unvala for a 2-0 Quakers’ edge early in the second half.

The Pride (2-1) got on the board two minutes later when Hannah Coats scored off a Mary Randolph assist to make the score 2-1.

The one-goal deficit did not last long, however, as Levitt launched a long shot into the net nearly two minutes later. The unassisted goal was Levitt’s sixth in four matches.

The Quakers controlled play for most of the game and did not let Greensboro get well organized in the offensive end. The Quakers’ defense, including Lily Wotkyns and Rachel Harman, kept Greensboro at bay for most of the game. Amy Baker and Kat Adams split time in goal for Guilford, with Baker recording two of Guilford’s three saves.

Unvala made three stops for the Pride, which was outshot, 9-7.

Guilford opens Old Dominion Athletic Conference play Saturday (9/17) against visiting Washington and Lee University at 2:00 p.m.
