High Point Andrews puts the lasso around the SWG Cowboys last night and the defense raids the Homecoming

from Michael Lindsay and the High Point Enterprise at www.hpe.com:

HIGH POINT – T.W. Andrews practices making plays on defense every day. On Friday night at Southwest Guilford, it certainly showed.

While neither team’s offense fared particularly well, the Red Raiders’ defense and special teams made several huge plays that led to all their points in a 25-0 win over the Cowboys.

Andrews (4-0) made five interceptions – including a 55-yard interception return by Jamarii Milliken on Southwest’s opening drive – and deflected two punts – including a punt into the end zone that Chris Pauling recovered – to key the win.

Milliken finished with two interceptions, while Pauling, Joseph White and Brenden Eans each had one.

“When you keep making plays like that, everyone wants to keep on playing,” Pauling said. “Everyone was getting hyped, and everyone wanted to start making plays. Everyone was getting after the ball, playing hard. We played really good today.”

That helped counteract an off night by the Andrews offense, which totaled just 180 yards of total offense and committed four turnovers. Despite the mistakes, the defense kept the Cowboys (2-3), who had 198 total yards, from the end zone.

“We work on (defense) every day,” Milliken said. “First thing’s first — strip drill, interception, scoop and score and everything like that. It felt great. Coach (Rodney McKoy) makes us work on that every day in practice. … We had 10 days to practice with the bye, so we were prepared.”
