High School Football Saturday Morning Rewind with Week One of conference action in the books

Big night for Dudley, as the Panthers got off the snide and picked up that first elusive victory and it is even better, when it is a conference win at that….Big night for Demetrious McCorkle, with 177 yards on 16 carries with 2 TD’s and McCorkle had the long run of 73 yards for a touchdown, in the first quarter….The old McCorkle that we saw two years ago is back, after he missed most of last season, with an injury….Keenon Sharpe was strong as an ox, running back there in the Panthers’ new Wing T offense and another young man from Dudley that impressed me, was #17 Brandon Reynolds….That kid was bouncing around, all over the place on the field last night…..Returns, runs, receptions; Reynolds was really a wrap last night, for Dudley…..

I also really excited watching #1 Marlon Hughes run for Smith….That kid was unreal last night, early in that game…..He was running like Marion Barber used to run for the Dallas Cowboys and a little John Riggins and Larry Brown from the Redskins, thrown in there too….Hughes is a man and his teammate Khalen Pratt showed me a lot too….Pratt did it on the ground and he threw for 134 yards for the Golden Eagles to boot….Hughes had two TD’s for Smith and Pratt hit Antonio Stimpson for 55-yard TD pass and Pratt ran in two, two-point conversions, for Smith….Real proud of Pratt, Hughes and Myles Morris from Smith for their efforts and the same goes for McCorkle, Sharpe and Reynolds from Dudley….

I was at the Smith-Dudley game, so that is why we have so much coverage of that contest….

Elsewhere from Friday, what do you say about that Mount Tabor-WS Carver game, with the Spartans of Mt. Tabor on top at the end, 87-52….WOW!!!!!

Balance from Page in the Pirates’ win over the Western Guilford, with seniors James Summers and Drew Rogers leading the way on offense and you have to give the Pirate defense major props and credits again, as they pitch another shutout, in the 28-0 win….Nothing fancy for Page, but still very consistant….And another TD grab for hard-working senior, Brian Spain….Whatever happened to John Spain? Is he still at Elon? I need to go look that one up……

Northern Guilford smoked Burlington Willimas with TJ Logan running for 4 TD’s and the Nighthawks scored 3 defensive touchdowns, with John McBeth, Tre Purcell and Tripp Dunn all getting in on the scoring parade…..Game over at the end of the first quarter, NG up 21-0 and game long gone at halftime, NG 49-0…..NG may be calling for a rematch with Page and a healthy TJ Logan could be a big boost if that were to happen and it won’t until 2012….

Ragsdale matched Northern’s offensive output, but the Tigers gave up 7 points to WS Parkland, in their 56-7 road win…Both Herndon’s had TD passes with Garrison tossing two and Coalson one, as Anthony Stewart, Eric Romer and Marquez Eleazor got in on the receiving act and Eleazor had three TD’s for the game…Xavier Jones had two TD’s for Ragsdale and Brad Davis joined Northern Guilford’s Alex Hasler(and it used to be NG’s Austin Hoke) going 8-8 on PAT kicks….

Northwest Guilford had a good battle going with Glenn and the Vikings came away with a 41-28 Homecoming win…Matt Pawlowski was 9-9 passing for 150 yards and one TD….NWG TD’s from all over the place with Dillon, Harding, Overcash, Kristy, Baxter and Pawlowski all scoring…..

Southeast Guilford got a workmanlike effort again from Jamal Petty, with the RB’s 166 yards on 16 carries and he hit for two more Falcon TD’s….Mr. Biggs got big again for SEG too, with his 110 yards on the ground by way of 19 carries and Biggs boosted the Falcons’ fortunes with 1 touchdown….Will Greene, another steady passing night, going 6-9 with 109 yards..

Southern Guilford relies heavily on Jamie Cunningham, Malik Mosley and Matt Colvin and all three showed up again on Friday night in the Storm’s win over Orange, with Cunningham running for two scores and passing to Colvin for another and then Mosley running for two more Storm TD’s……Cunningham, Colvin and Mosley; three of the best around….

Big-time night for High Point Central’s Justin Johnson, even though the Bison fall in a close one to East Forsyth, 21-20, but Johnson has his best night so far in his short varsity career, going 16-30 for 252 yards and three TD passes for HPC…Big-time night for Justin Johnson and maybe that kid has a little bit of Drew Adams in him……

Wake Christian topped High Point Christian 28-14 and Quentin Chavis went 24 for 47 for 221 yards and 2 TD’s in the HPCA Cougars’ losing effort.

  1. I knew the name Antonio Stimpson rang a bell. He played for Page his freshman year for the JVs. I was wondering where he ended up. Glad to see him making plays for Smith.

  2. Also, Ragsdale defense had some more huge plays last night! So glad Mike Ellis covers Ragsdale in Jamestown News so we have coverage of a team located right between GSO and HP.. Very disappointed, once again, in News and Record and HP Enterprise for their lack of coverage of a local team. Probably losing even more subscriptions…sad…sad…
