Men’s Soccer Final – Covenant 2, Guilford 1

LOOKOUT MOUNTAIN, Ga. – Ian Meredith scored his first two goals of the season in Covenant College’s 2-1 soccer win over visiting Guilford College Saturday.

Meredith’s tallies sent the Scots (1-2-2) to their first victory of the season and the Quakers (2-3-1) to their second straight setback. He scored in the 20th minute off an assist from Tyler Morrison and opened the second-half scoring with an 18-yard blast in the 47th minute set up by goalie John Eger.

Guilford scored by virtue of an own goal in the 79th minute while playing with a man advantage after Covenant’s Chris Pifer was sent off in the 64th minute. The Quakers had a couple more shots on goal in the final 10 minutes, but Eger stopped them en route to eight saves in goal.

The Quakers outshot the Scots, 13-11, and owned a 9-0 edge in corner kicks.

Guilford plays the third of four straight road games Sunday (9/18) at Emory University.
