Guilford College Women’s Tennis Results

FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. – Guilford College’s Meredith Schaffer won the sixth singles flight at the Methodist University Invitational tennis tournament, which ended Sunday on Monarch Courts. Schaffer received a bye in the opening round and reached the semifinals with an 0-6, 6-3, 10-2 win over Methodist University’s Stephanie Hunter. Schaffer went three sets in Sunday’s final to beat Beverly Vause of the University of North Carolina at Pembroke, 6-4, 3-6, 10-7.

Schaffer teamed with Guilford’s Kim Kleimeier at third doubles and reached the semifinals before falling to the eventual champions, Hillary Petruska and Emily Talley of Methodist, 8-4.

Allison Hewitt was Guilford’s only other competitor to post a victory in the six-team, 46-player event. She won her fifth-singles quarterfinal match with Greensboro College’s Elizabeth Adair, 6-1, 6-0, and fell in three sets to Methodist’s Talley in the semifinals.

Guilford will compete Sept. 22-24 at the ITA South Regionals in Atlanta, Ga.
