College Volleyball Final – N.C. Wesleyan 3, Guilford 0

ROCKY MOUNT, N.C. – Anna Hart had a match-high 16 kills on .448 hitting to lead host North Carolina Wesleyan College past Guilford College Friday night, 25-14, 26-24, 25-23, in nonconference volleyball action.

Hart had six of her kills and hit .444 in the Battling Bishops’ (7-5) opening set. The hosts put away 15 kills on .407 hitting in the set, as compared to seven kills on .130 hitting for the Quakers (2-11).

N.C. Wesleyan jumped out to a 6-0 lead in the second set, but Guilford rallied and held a 16-15 lead. Senior Laura Kopald had five of her team-high 10 kills in the second set, but the Batting Bishops narrowly prevailed. Hart and Meredith Smith both put away five kills and Mackenzie Tingle set up 11 assists for the home team.

Guilford held a 21-16 edge in the third set before N.C. Wesleyan ended the match with a 9-2 run that took advantage of six Guilford attack errors. Hart had five more kills, plus two service aces, in the final set.

Tingle had 31 assists, 10 digs, five kills and three service aces for N.C. Wesleyan. Hart also contributed 12 digs, three aces and a block in a solid all-around performance. Smith reached double-digit kills with 11.

Emma Gunn had six of her seven hills in the third set for Guilford. She hit .357 for the match and added one block. Taylor Whitley set up 29 assists and had six digs for the Quakers. Taylor Phillips paced Guilford with 15 pickups.

Guilford returns home to host Salem College Tuesday (9/27) at 7:00 p.m.
