Women’s Tennis Results – Guilford Competes at USTA/ITA South Region Championships

ATLANTA, Ga. – Guilford College’s women’s tennis team competed at the non-scoring United States Tennis Association/Intercollegiate Tennis Association South Region Championships Sept. 23-25 at Emory University. The Quakers were one of 15 teams at the tournament and entered five students in the 101-woman field.

Freshman Meredith Shaffer was the lone Quaker to reach the second round of singles play. She posted a 6-4, 6-1, win over Greensboro College’s Elizabeth Adair in the opening round of the B Singles Draw, but lost in the second round to Huntingdon College’s Jaclyn Crossman, 6-4, 6-0.

The Quakers’ doubles tandem of sophomore Natalie Sutton and freshman Allison Hewitt advanced to the second round of the B Doubles Draw with an 8-3 victory over Berry College’s Ali Jackson and Amber Monroe. Huntingdon’s Christian Vick and Hannah Creamer eliminated the Guilford pair in the second round, 8-2.

Hewitt lost her first-round singles match in the B Singles Draw, but won a consolation contest with Agnes Scott College’s Alexis Mastmeier, 6-4, 6-1.

Coach Dave McCain’s Quakers conclude their fall competition by competing in the Old Dominion Athletic Conference Individual Championships Oct. 8-9 at Randolph-Macon College.
