Nick Toon scored on a 59-yard catch-and-run from quarterback Russell Wilson and added another score with 12 seconds left to send Wisconsin into halftime with a 31-3 lead.
Toon gave the credit to Wilson, who completed 19 of 25 passes for 345 yards and three touchdowns before taking a seat in the fourth quarter.
“Obviously, Russell’s a great player, a big part of that,” Toon said. “I’m not able to do what I can do if I don’t have someone that can get it to me. And Russell’s done a great job of getting the ball to me this year.”
Wilson said the Badgers’ newfound quick-strike ability on offense took the air out of a South Dakota team that stayed in the game into the second quarter. Wilson said that’s a function of the talent the Badgers have on offense.
“I think that was huge for our offense, and huge for our team in general,” Wilson said. “The defense did a great job of stopping them, getting us the ball back. When we can go down there and score and execute when we really need to, that’s a tough thing for an opposing team.”

Russell Wilson had to be a can’t-miss player from the day he was born, no matter where he went and chose to play ball……
With a name like that, Russell as in Russell athletic products and sporting goods and then Wilson, as in Wilson products and Wilson sporting goods, how could you not be a success….
Sort of like the new kid that might be coming in as Mikie/Nike Underwood/Under Armour, or something like that……Maybe Voit Mizuno or Spalding…
O’Briant will never admit his mistake but he made a stupid decision in pushing Russell out of the program. The coach was the only person in this state that thought the current QB was even in Russell’s class and I would bet even the coach does not believe that any more. How could the coach not know that his defense was not going to be prepared especially in light of the potential departure of Wilson. Wilson would have at least keep the offense moving and put 24 or more points on the board every game which means at least a 7 and 5 season (worst case). Now they will be lucky to even get the 6th win and he will be under fire the rest of this season and likely fired at the end of 2012 if they do not make a good bowl or have a good recruiting class (which is not likely on either front). Debbie Yow will likely fire him asap on Dec 20th of 2012. State needs to go after one of those SEC head or asst coaches that can breath some life into the State program. If I had a kid that was a 4 or 5 star player, then there are no reasons to go to State with him coaching.
