A couple of Greensboro Grasshoppers named tops in the Florida Marlins minor league/farm system

PAIR OF HOPPERS NAMED TOPS IN MARLINS MINOR LEAGUE SYSTEM

Michael Brady named Minor League Pitcher of the Year; Christian Yelich named
Minor League Player of the Year

GREENSBORO ­ The Florida Marlins named right-handed pitcher Michael Brady
their Minor League Pitcher of the Year and outfielder Christian Yelich their
Minor League Player of the Year. The announcements were made Monday by
Marlins Vice President of Player Development Marty Scott.

Brady, 24, went 7-1 with 18 saves in 22 opportunities, while sporting a 1.91
ERA (61.1 IP/13 ER) in 48 relief appearances with Greensboro Grasshoppers.
He recorded 81 strikeouts while walking only 10, ranking third among South
Atlantic League relievers in strikeout/walk ratio (11.89). Brady led all SAL
relievers in fewest hits allowed (40), opponent¹s average (.184) and fewest
base runners per 9.0 innings (7.48), and ranked third in games finished (41)
and saves. The Marlins¹ 24th Round selection in the 2009 First-Year Player
Draft from UC-Berkeley, Brady compiled a postseason record of 1-0 with a
1.13 ERA (8.0 IP/1 ER) in five appearances, helping lead the Grasshoppers to
their first SAL Championship since 1982.

Yelich,19, finished the year with a batting average of .312 (144-461) in 122
games for the ?Hoppers, marking the third-highest average among South
Atlantic League hitters. The first-round selection in the 2010 First-Year
Player Draft ranked tied for sixth in the SAL in stolen bases (32), seventh
in total bases (223), seventh in on-base percentage (.388), ninth in doubles
(32), and tenth in on-base percentage plus slugging (.871) over the course
of his first full minor league season. Yelich was also named to the SAL
Mid-Season and Annual All-Star team.

The 2010 award winners were right-handed pitcher Elih Villanueva and
infielder Ozzie Martinez.
