  1. Page is being too nice. They should be up by 40. But the night is young.

    Grimsley’s offense is garbage.

  2. Just another day at the office.

The final score was Page 49 Grimsley 0 in a game where records mean nothing and anything can happen. The game was not as close as the score indicated. Page could have had at least 2 more TDs had they not shot themselves in the foot with dumb penalties.

The revolting “all Grimsley all the time” TV coverage this morning and evening on News 2 was irritating but like Underdogs Unite said, we Pirates prefer it that way. Ignore us on TV and we go and kick your ass on the field.

I knew Grimsley was depleted but dear God there are middle school teams with better offenses. I am certain the stats will show that the Swirlys got maybe 1 or 2 first downs that were actually gained, not awarded because of Page penalties.

Page ups their series record to 40-11-3 and a five game win streak. The Grimsley student body stayed ’til the end and cheered. I guess they were cheering the fact that the final score wasn’t 70-0.

I would like to be magnanimous in victory but Grimsley’s antics today prevent me from doing so. This is what you get, Swirlys, when you come on our campus and vandalize our cars and leave ugly signs behind. You get your asses handed to you. See you next year. Meantime your stadium and your sorry butts belong to Page.

  3. @ John–
    .
I’ve always been an advocate (or at least tried) of showing tact and decorum in dealing with teenagers by not insulting them in any way but what I saw at Page when I went to buy my tickets was simple disgusting. Now, during my time of high school sports we did the normal pranks and such but to have cars vandalized? That was just sickening! There were the normal pranks that could easily be wiped down or cleaned off. Then, you had side view mirrors smashed, nails under tires, etc. Personally, I think when a monetary price has to be paid for damages, the joke has gone too far. I’m hoping my insurance company will foot the bill. I think once I explain that we THRASHED the *ahem* opposing team, the CEO of my insurance company will come and fix my son’s car HIMSELF!

  4. UU I am sorry your son’s car was damaged. I agree about tact and decorum but in this world, you get what you give. Respect is earned.

Call them what they are; hoodlums. I know Grimsley has some good kids there; News 2 showed some of them giving away leftover food from TEx & Shirly’s to some homeless folks. I hope the videotapes of the perps get handed over to the police and charges are pressed. Maybe that’s the only way to make these kids learn.

In the meantime, Grimsley got what was coming to them tonight on the field.

  5. Please somebody tell Brewington (coach at Smith High) he need to quit. He’s an overrated coach that got by with talen last year. Im tired of seeing dive right and dive left. Oh wait a minute he will switch it up and run off tackle. What I just witness tonight was my last straw! Who rushes 2 d-lineman in a 2 minute drill. These kids look lost and if I had a child on Smith football team I would be hot! Smith has talent he just cant coach. I mean #7 is the best athlete on the field and he doesnt even use the kid. Brewington better be glad Im not that kids parent or I would give him an earful.

I see why he’s hated by other coaches. He’s selfish and arrogant! Trust me Im speaking for the masses.

    BREWINGTON MUST GO!!!

  6. Lol…the smith masses jumping ship already??? I mean just last year he was coach of the year and told people he knows how to build a program…

  7. I hate to say it but its true, the coaches at Smith are really making alot of mistakes. I also saw the game and Smith should have beat WG by 20 points very easy. Same plays over and over, and the defense at the end was as bad as I have ever seen. Good young team not so good coaching !!

  8. The last 4 minutes of the western game was one of the most intense games I have ever witnessed. What a finish. Huge plays made by josh thompson and others at the end there. wow.

  9. Guys I went to the Northern Guilford and Eastern Guilford game last night and left at halftime. Northern Guilford was up 35-0 and you talking about putting your foot on the gas pedal the Nighthawks could have went for 100 points the way they was playing. Every since the loss to Page they have look pretty good, yeah there schedule has been pretty easy but they have dominated the teams they were suppose to dominate plus they beat a good Northwest and Eastern Alamance(3-A state runner-up) team both on the road. T.J. Logan is the second best player in area after James Summer and Daniel Downing has done a good job at quarterback it’s not easy replacing a four year starter and good quarterback in Roscoe J.r. But man I tell you I don’t know who to blame for that terrible performance the coaches or the players. I just don’t get it I know it’s not easy coaching and preparing for game after game but at some point you lay it all on the field and Eastern Guilford hasn’t done that even when they win I feel they half do it. People say the team doesn’t have talent and I’m starting to agree, other than #25 Quan Moss you put those other guys on different teams and they wouldn’t even start it’s makes me mad to see the same stuff year after year bad coaching not enough talent I mean can someone tell me the problem and how do you solve it?

  10. mr. wildcat, as bad as last night was, to leave at halftime indicates you are not a true wildcat. our record is 3-4. at this point in 2010, as well as in 2009, our record was 1-6. are we a great team? no. are we a terrible team? no. just ask SW guilford, Western Guilford, or Morehead. take cheap shots at the coaching staff if you want to, they are adults and they can leave and go somewhere else if they want. taking cheap shots at the players is terrible. did you ever play the game yourself? the players show up every day and sacrifice their lives for the sake of the team and school. they can only go on the field and attempt to carry out the plan the coaches come up with. do we get outplayed on the field? many tiimes yes. butb do not say we don’t have the athletes. many area coaches would love to have some of the players we have. you think #25 is good, and i agree he is. but he is not the best player on the team. we have several players that could go anywhere and start. have you paid any attention to #92, #31, #52, or #23? i think even NG would find postions for those guys.

  11. EG has talent cause I saw it at the scrimmage…the running back I saw at the scrimmage (He was wearing #1) was really good and has a chance to be special…If y’all don’t think he is good then he can come on over to Page…I’m sure the coaches there would love to have him…

  12. Congrats to Page. They have an awesome team that should go far in the playoffs. As far as the vandalism, that does not belong anywhere and I much like you guys hope that the guilty are caught and pay an appropriate price. We like Page have our share of bad kids at Grimsley and in the community surrounding the school. We also have a large majority of caring, well behaved kinds.

John your post is very immature and demonstrates what a jerk we already knew you were. You have NEVER been magnanimous and mainly come off as a pompous *** and a reason for most people to hate your team much like you hate our team for the actions of a few people who probably are not even students at Grimsley.

  13. I don’t blame the kids at Grimsley for vandalism at Page HS, I blame the parents, it starts at home. Once they find out who did it the parents should be charged with the offense and the kids also. I was at the game and it seems that the kids at Grimsley have no respect. I didn’t see one kid on the page side turn their backs when the Grimsley band and played music, but the Grimsley side did. I am glad to see Grimsley get what they got an old fashion beaten. I guess if you can beat them on the field you beat them by vandalism. Being a former Marine I would discipline these Grimsley kids very harshly and let them and their parents fix the cars and then do the same thing to their cars and let them fix also at their expense not the insurance company.

  14. @joemarine, to be fair, I did see the front row of Page kids turn their back on grimsley’s band, I wouldn’t expect anything else. Disrespect is deeply ingrained in this rivalry, regardless of how superior Page is year in and year out.
To me it seemed that the grimsley students showed up Page’s both in numbers and in enthusiasm. The Page kids just weren’t as loud as they used to be (i.e.: when I was in school)! I blame the current administration; they have really cracked down on monitoring student behavior at football games.
Regardless, I am excited to see how far Gillespie can take the team this year.

  15. The quarterback at Northern is a solid player but not a Division I quarterback nor would he be a starter for a team like Appalachian State based on the quarterbacks that they have had in recent years. It was stated years ago that the Rosco kid would not be a college quarterback when he was quarterbacking at Northern when talent like Keenan Allen and Maurice Harris had the ability to make plays and cover up for many deficiencies. Does this mean that the kid will not get an offer? No it does not. Can he be a productive player at some position? Yes. Rosco is on ECU squad and that is great. But will he ever be one of their main players? Keenan Allen is and Maurice will factor into California system once the receiver Jones is gone. Why? Because they both had true talent that could have played for any Big Time highschool programs in the country and been contributing factors. If folks would be more honest when assessing kids versus hiding what they are capable based on teams won or loss records, then the truth will always come out in the end.

  16. @Joe
I guess it looked pretty funny while you were in the Marines to have your mom do all those push ups for you when you fell out of line. At this age the kids are responsible for their own actions no matter how irresponsible their parents are. A lot of the problem is everyone wants to jump in today and blame someone else for their actions. The students turned their backs on the band? Come on and lets get over ourselves a little bit here.

    @UU
I was not allowed to go over and get my M&Ms due to some stupid actions by other fans in the past I guess. I might try today but the ants might have gotten to them by now. Congrats on a great team but technically I think the scoreboard said Visitors 49 Home 0 and we were the visiting team last night. I am appealing to the NCHSAA and blaming my parents for making me the way I am. I am truely sorry for the damage to your son’s and other’s cars. I hope resolution comes quickly and those that did this are taught an important life lesson.

  17. To Grimsley Fans,

Understand that when you have one parent or fan who comes on here boasting that it does not indicate the majority of the fans who pull for Page. The majority of us like to remain humble and wish that the Page players stay humble as well. We as fans expect them to continue to work hard and listen to their coaches, and if they can follow these two simple things then success follows. I don’t like to come on here and put another team down, and the majority of the Page fans don’t either. I just want people to understand that most of us respect the opponents that we play. We do know we have a decent team this year and are very fortunate not to be the other teams. We are very blessed to be 6-0 thus far, and I hope that the streak will continue. Yes, there will be Mallard Creek, Butler, Richmond County, Scotland County, etc., but some of the players have told me that Coach G tells them at practice to respect all opponents but fear none. Therefore, I don’t forsee Page being scared of playing any other team. If they run into a loss in the playoffs then I will have to say that the team will have to be pretty darn good.

Grimsley is very young and most of us know this. They will get better as they get experience. Page’s program is on another level right now. There are about 4 schools in the area who are working hard at building a PROGRAM. I don’t need to say the team names, but look at what the jv and varsity teams consistently both do. You have to take time with your younger kids and allow them to develop before just tossing them into a varsity game or varsity experience. Very seldom do you have the James Summers, TJ Logans, etc. (and there are many more) who are able to come in and be solid their sophomore year on the varsity level. I like how Page is building a program starting with their jv’s. They get a lot of playing experience and a lot confidence before playing on Friday nights.

As far as pranks go, I wouldn’t expect anything less in a rival game such as this. Now, I do think once damages to property are done and parents have to spend money for fixes then its gone a little too far. I know there are bad apples in any school, but I do not see anything wrong with a smart planned out prank that doesn’t require the law to be involved. Just be smart kids. Put your brains together and don’t do stupid things that could cost you getting arrested over it.

  18. @Gfan–
it would’ve been nice if we had the opportunity to meet. I’m sure I would’ve thoroughly enjoyed the “ribbing” you would’ve surely given me throughout the night. I also know that it would’ve been all in fun..no more, no less. I hope we can get the opportunity to cheer for the same team in the final weeks of high school football. In the meantime, go get those M&Ms. I’m sure the extra protein from the ants will make your belly “tingle!” Lol!!

BTW—Now that you’ve mentioned the scoreboard, I’ll have to go back through some pictures I was tagged in (of it) and take another look see.
