College Men’s Soccer Final – Guilford 3, Randolph-Macon 1

GREENSBORO, N.C. – Ronnie Castellanos scored a goal and an assist in Guilford College’s 3-1 win over Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) rival Randolph-Macon College Saturday night. Freddy Gomez and Eto’ Kemda-Kemptsop added second-half goals as the Quakers’ (4-4-2, 1-2 ODAC) notched their first league win of the season.

The loss halted Randolph-Macon’s (3-3-2, 2-1-2 ODAC) four-game unbeaten streak.

Castellanos opened the scoring with a first-half tally, his second of the year, in the 39th minute. The Quakers held a 1-0 lead at halftime. His cross in the 79th minute set up Kemda-Kemtsop’s first score of the year, which opened a 3-0 Guilford lead. In between, Gomez netted his team-leading sixth tally of the season, a nifty header from the middle of the box that was set up by a well-played feed by Richard Page.

Randolph-Macon’s David Sullivan scored the Yellow Jackets’ lone goal in the 83rd minute with a corner kick that deflected off of Guilford goalie Peter Truitt.

Both teams had 15 shots in the match and Randolph-Macon held a 6-2 edge in corner kicks. Guilford’s Truitt made six saves and Randolph-Macon’s Matty Rocawich stopped four shots.

The Quakers return to action Tuesday at league-rival Virginia Wesleyan College.
