High Point Andrews rides Camels hard on Friday as the Red Raiders smoke WS Atkins

from Jason Queen at www.hpe.com:

HIGH POINT – Winless Atkins traveling to unbeaten T.W. Andrews looked like a homecoming mismatch Friday night at Simeon Stadium.

It was even worse than the Camels could have imagined.

The Raiders were up 21-0 midway through the first quarter and emptied their bench midway through the second in a 40-13 romp over Atkins in the PAC-6 2A opener for Andrews.

After coming through a tough nonconference slate unscathed, Raiders coach Rodney McKoy was pleased to start conference play on the right note. “One of our goals is to win the conference,” McKoy said. “All the games are important. We wanted to get out of this game healthy, more so than trying to beat up on a team.”

Rodderick Campbell capped an 80-yard drive with a 5-yard run on Andrews’ first possession. Jamarii Milliken blocked a punt moments later that Aaron Phergson recovered in the end zone for another score.

After the Camels botched the ensuing kickoff, D.J. Miller raced in from 22 yards out to make it 21-0. Atkins simply had no answer, and McKoy called off the dogs well before halftime. Marquell Cartwright tacked on a 25-yard touchdown run, and Marquez Swinton found Jarvis Dow with a 13-yard scoring pass to make it 34-0 at intermission.
