High Point Enterprise Update on Ragsdale-SWG……

from www.hpe.com:

HIGH POINT – Through three-plus quarters, Southwest Guilford hung with neighboring rival Ragsdale. Eventually, though, the Tigers put their foot down and pulled away.

Leading by three early in the fourth quarter, Ragsdale scored two big touchdowns to beat the host Cowboys 31-14 on Friday night and maintain its share of the lead in the Piedmont Triad 4A Conference football standings.

“It felt real good,” Tigers senior quarterback Garrison Herndon said. “We didn’t play our best. It’s strange play two games in a week (after playing Monday in a rescheduled game). So we had a little adversity there.

“But we came through, got together as a team and figured it all out. It felt good, but obviously we’ve got to keep getting better.”

After Southwest (2-5, 0-2) pulled within 17-14 early in the fourth, Ragsdale (6-1, 3-0) pieced together a 10-play, 58-yard drive, capped by Marcus Eleazer’s 4-yard stumbling scoring run, to lead 24-14 with 7:28 left.

Then, on the Cowboys’ ensuing drive, the Tigers’ Winston Craig blocked a punt that teammate Joe Pantuso recovered at the Southwest 5-yard line. That set up a 3-yard TD run by quarterback Garrison Herndon with 5:22 left.

“We played a lot better in the second half than the first,” Ragsdale coach Tommy Norwood said. “We missed a bunch of opportunities in the first half, but my hat goes off to Southwest. … First half, we ran a lot of stuff that was different. Second half, we just went back to meat and potatoes.”

Eleazer finished with 145 yards and a TD on the ground to lead a host of rushers for the Tigers. Herndon completed 8 of 15 passes for 53 yards, hitting Anthony Stewart for a TD catch and running for another.
