Page HS football player injured at practice today and taken to Moses Cone Hospital

from www.news-record.com:

Page football player back Marcus Demery was transported to Moses Cone Hospital by EMS with an apparent neck injury after being hit in the helmet by a teammate’s shoulder pad during practice Monday night.

Page coaches said EMS was called to the practice field at about 5:40 p.m. for precautionary reasons. The coaches later said the injury was diagnosed as a bruise and Demery was expected to go home from the hospital later Monday night.

Assistant Coach Gordon Hagen said Demery was participating in a drill in which Demery was supposed to intercept the football after the quarterback, played by Hagen, threw it toward a receiver. Demery and the receiver jumped at the same time to catch the ball and collided, Hagen said.

Demery “fell down and said his neck was hurting and his back was hurting,” said Hagen, who added that Demery has a history of lower-back pain.

  1. Our hope and prayer is that he did not suffer a serious injury and will be back on the field soon.
