High School Football Saturday Morning Rewind:Nothing cut and dry about last night’s games

Those were some kind of games last night and Jason Wolf of the News and Record was saying that was the best game he had seen all year long….The game with NWG getting over the hump and knocking off Ragsdale, in Jamestown last night…..The other games with Dudley over SEG, NEG coming back to take down Southern and Eastern Guilford upsetting Rockingham County, those games were not far behind…..Looks to me, like we have some of the bsst football in the state, being played right here in the Triad/Guilford County….

We were really building up NWG-Ragadale, SEG-Dudley and NEG-Southern and they all proved to be very big……

What more can you say about that NWG-Ragsdale game? Fourth and goal at the two, with just 15 seconds remaining…..NWG runs right and RB Reid Bzxter gets into the end zone…Then the two-point conversion pass from Matt Pawlowski to Baxter, to make it a three-point game…..If you are Matty P from NWG, what a big game against one of your chief rivals, in your senior season…..His passing for over 200 yards(201) and his key runs for first downs, knowing where the yard markers were, you couldn’t ask for a bigger and better game, against a team that you had to beat……This was Matty P’s type of game last night…..And all that passing was a real pleasant surprise for him and his Vikings….You knew he had it in him and he let it loose last night…..Evan Tingler, Ryan Overcash, Kyle Kristy, Reid Baxter, Cole Anderson, they all came up with key catches/receptions……

Down 28-10, the Vikings knew they had to pass and they did, behind their senior leader, Matt Pawlowski and again he did more to go with his passing, when you add in his QB runs/scampers for yardage….And that “O” Line up front with Tyler Campbell, Aidan Smith, Ben Yates, Clay Shelton and Paul Crane allowed Matty P, Reid Baxter, Dalton Dillon, Kyle Kristy, Ryan Overcash, Evan Tingler, Cole Anderson and others to get and keep their offense going…..On defense, you have to give credit to Dalton Dillon and Logan Lover with their big interceptions and also props to Curtis Smith, Jason Leonard, Aiden Smith, Ben Yates, Evan Albertson, Kevin Parrish, Brian Murray, Ryan Overcash and others on the defensive side of the ball……

That was a big comeback win for Coach Joe Woodruff and his NWG Vikings last night in Jamestown….Tough loss for the Ragsdale Tigers, but they are a strong team and they will bounce back…..(Kind of wild too, to see the two NWG kids from our Shane’s Rib Shack show the other night, on the front page of the News and Record sports section, this morning….Tyler Campbell and Curtis Smith….)

Hard to get that NWG-Ragsdale game out of the head/mind this morning, with the fourth and goal from the two and the fake punt run for 19 yards early in the game and the big passes and key runs…That was a load……

But you look at that comeback win by NEG over Southern and that was big too…..Rams down 29-27 at the half and they come back and win over Southern Guilford, 41-29….NEG QB Kyle Martin 2 TD’s running and one passing and Jacob McCann with 2 rushing touchdowns and a big night on the defensive side of the ball….SG with 226 yards rushing and 293 passing from Jamie Cunningham…..NEG with 358 yards on the ground and 137 through the air……Lots of yards, that’s 519 SG and 495 for NEG, for 1014 yards total between the two teams….That’s a load…..But 14-0 NEG in the second half, that’s the difference in the game….

Dudley and the Panthers’ backup QB Adrian Slade stepped up big time….SEG was up on Dudley 17-6 at the half and the Panthers go on to outscore the Falcons 14-0, in the second half….Who would have ever thunk it, all 3 Dudley scores come by passes…..Two TD passes by starter Richard Hayes and one by the key reserve Adrian Slade….Very big win for Dudley, now (3-0) in the Metro and tied with Page for the top spot and the Panthers are headed to Western Guilford next Friday night and WG sits at (3-1) Metro…..Three Dudley scores last night and all three come by way of the pass….There’s nothing cut and dry about last night’s games…..

There is nothing cut and dry about last night’s games and we see where Northwest got over the hump at Ragsdale, SEG could not get over the hump at Dudley and Southern Guilford could not get over the hump at NEG…..Page is another team that got over the hump at Ragsdale this year and last night, look back at it like this……Ragsdale up on NWG 21-10 at the half and NWG comes back to win…..Southern up on NEG 29-27 at the half and NEG comes back to win, SEG up on Dudley 17-6 at the half and Dudley comes back to win……Nothing cut and dry about those games at all….

Eastern Guilford was up on Rockingham County 12-0 at halftime and then later on RC comes back to take an 14-12 lead in the game and then the EG Wildcats go on to win over the Cougars, 18-14….Looks like it was just defensive scoring by Rockingham County and the EG “D” just about shut down RC in a battle of the Cats……QB Heath Justice playing well for EG, with a TD pass and a long 72-yard touchdown run…..EG now (4-4) overall and (2-2) conference and ready to make a playoff run……

The Page Pirates are the top team in our area and they really had no problem with Smith last night…..Page put up 42 points and the Pirates amassed 403 yards on the ground and the Page Pirates only posted 83 yards passing last night, but they didn’t need to go to the air, Drew Rogers was there for the Bucos, with his bucking-style running, carrying him for 191 yards on 18 carries and a TD….Kind of wild to see where DB Ed Britt caught a TD pass, from Page QB James Summers….James threw one and run for another TD……

We talked about teams being up at halftime and the other teams coming back to win and that was the story for Southwest Guilford, as they led Glenn 17-3 at the half and then watched the Glenn Bobcats come back to post a 24-17 victory…….21-0 Glenn in the second half……

Nothing really cut and dry about last night’s games, you think…….

Didn’t see or hear anything about Western Guilford over Southern Alamance, Northern over McMichael, High Point Central or High Point Andrews from last night and if you have something please send and we will do some more research on those, later on today…..
