‘And then along came Jones’: Dwight Jones(Burlington Cummings HS) sets the tones and heads to the end zones for UNC Tar Heels

from Luke DeCock at www.charlotteobserver.com:

CHAPEL HILL – Having played with Dwight Jones(Burlington Cummings HS) in prep school, Quinton Coples(Kinston HS) knows as well as anyone that it takes more than two guys standing on their feet to bring Jones down.

Louisville found out Saturday what Coples already knew.(Jones and Coples played on the team together, at Hargrave Military Academy in Chatham, Virginia.)

Jones caught the ball at the 13 and dragged a pair of Cardinals defenders along as they batted at the ball like kittens. Jones finally shook them off, spun away and trotted the final 5 yards into the end zone.

  1. Big Dwight Jones fan here! I was always disappointed when he didn’t have the academic prowess to get into Clemson. That being said, it’s great to see him playing well at UNC this year. Good luck Dwight!

  2. He had shown a lot of improvement since he was a kid….He used to be known as slow walking Jones, slow talking Jones and even fumbling stumbling Jones…..But not any more….Today he is almost like breakaway, freight train Casey Jones……

  3. Couldn’t get into Clemson? You must be mistaken. He got into Chapel Hill and you know that is no small task. Couldn’t get into Clemson….LOL!

  4. The Butch Davis phone records from his 216 area code have been placed under subpoena today.
How will the PTB among UNC higherups deal with this?

  5. Yes, he couldn’t get into Clemson. I’m happy for Dwight. If football doesn’t work out for him, he’ll have an African American Studies degree to fall back on.

  6. Dwight Jones will be in the NFL provided he does not get hurt and will be drafted in the first three rounds! Would be a great fit for the Panthers if he is available!
