Pride Fall to Peace in Four Sets

The Greensboro College volleyball team fell to the Peace Pacers, 3-1 (25-16, 17-25, 22-25, 19-25) as The Pride celebrated Breast Cancer Awareness with their Dig Pink event. The loss drops Greensboro to 3-10 in conference play, a record it hopes to improve this weekend with two more conference matches.

The Pride came out swinging hard in the first set, recording 11 kills and winning by nine points. The Pacers bounced back in the second set, but Greensboro would not go away easily. After Peace jumped out to an early lead in set three, The Pride battled back to tie the game at 20 before the Pacers pulled away for the victory. Greensboro jumped in front again in the fourth set, but Peace found their hitting stroke, recording 25 kills in the last two sets, to put away The Pride.

Freshman Liz Widenhouse continued her strong play since returning to the line-up, tallying 17 kills and 11 digs. Sophomore Dana Sandknop dished out 28 assists and added six digs, while several players had strong defensive efforts. Sophomores Siarra Cates and Danielle Simpson recorded 13 digs to lead Greensboro.

The Pride will be back in action Saturday for two USA South matches. Greensboro will take on Mary Baldwin at 12:00 p.m. before battling the fourth place N.C. Wesleyan Bishops at 4:00 p.m.
