Women’s Volleyball: Guilford 3, Roanoke 1

GREENSBORO, NC – The Quakers (9-14, 4-5 ODAC) beat Old Dominion Athletic Conference opponent Roanoke, 3-1 (25-20, 18-25, 25-16, 25-21). Seniors Emma Gunn and Laura Kopald lead the attack with 12 (.455 hitting) 10 kills (.333 hitting) a piece. Kopald also helped the cause with six aces. Fellow seniors Mary Moody and Taylor Phillips also had an impressive night in their final game in Ragan-Brown Field House. Moody had a team-high 13 kills and 10 digs while Phillips added 11 pickups. Setter Taylor Whitley paced the way with a match-high 39 assists. Freshman Brittany DeCesare added seven kills in the win.

Roanoke (4-20, 1-8 ODAC) battled in all four sets behind two seniors, Rachel Hawkins and Kelsey Largen. Hawkins had 11 kills on .474 hitting while Largen added 11 kills, six digs and three aces. Freshman Sarah Long chipped in with nine kills, eight digs and an impressive five blocks. Setter Shannon Stone had a team-high 31 assists and also added 11 pickups. Samantha Klostermann paced the defense with a match-high 14 digs.

Guilford will hit the road Friday (10/21) to travel to Ferrum College and take on the Panthers in a non-conference match at 7:00 p.m.
