GC Pride Men’s Soccer Drops Key USA South Match-up at Methodist

The Greensboro College men’s soccer team came up on the short end of a 3-0 decision in a key conference road game at Methodist on Wednesday. A win would have set-up a winner-take-all conference clash with first place Christopher Newport on Saturday. However, The Pride are still in contention for second place and first round tournament bye.

Despite the final outcome, Greensboro only trailed in shots by a 13-8 margin. The Pride attempted four shots on goal while the Monarchs finished the game with eight opportunities on target.

Methodist struck first with a goal in the 26th minute by Nahom Hargwoon on an assist by Clayton Newton. The lead would hold up heading into the break.

The Monarchs added to the lead just 51 seconds into the second half on a converted free kick by Newton. Methodist iced the game in the 76th minute with a goal from Eric McGinnis. Newton again provided the assist on the play.

Logan Paussa led the Greensboro offensive attack with three total shots and one on goal. Colby Johnson added two shots, with one coming on goal, while Giamper Oblach and Marco Figueroa chipped in with one shot on goal apiece.

Woody Wilder played in net for The Pride and recorded three saves for the game.

With the defeat, The Pride fall to 4-5-5 overall and 3-2 in the USA South. Greensboro will return to the field on Saturday at home against Christopher Newport. The 3:30 p.m. contest will mark the regular season finale and Senior Day. It is also the designated Pride Pack the Place game for the men’s soccer team.
