College Cross Country Results – Guilford Men Take Fourth, Women 23rd at NCAA Regional Meet

SEGUIN, Texas – Guilford College’s Chad Norton earned a trip to the NCAA Division III Cross Country Championships Saturday. The Quakers’ sophomore placed sixth among 174 runners at the Division III South/Southeast Regional Championship hosted by Texas Lutheran University. Norton completed the eight-kilometer course in 26 minutes, 34.5 seconds, 30 seconds behind race winner John Kieffer of Centre College.

Norton helped the Quakers’ men place a school-record fourth in the 23-team race, which featured Division III schools from Virginia to Texas. Lynchburg College won the meet by one point over Centre, but both teams advance to next week’s national championship race in Wisconsin. Emory University finished third, followed by Guilford and Bridgewater College.

Guilford senior Derick Kosgei finished 12th in 26:51.1, which earned All-South honors for the third straight season, a Guilford first. Teammate David Cason placed 42nd in 27:57 and rookie Tim Aune was 60th in 28:23.3. Sophomore Dylan Skinner rounded out Guilford’s scorers with a 28:41.8 that placed 74th.

Old Dominion Athletic Conference teams acquitted themselves well at Saturday’s race, taking four of the top-six spots in the team standings and six of the top individual spots. Lynchburg edged Guilford by one point at the ODAC Championships two weeks ago.


SEGUIN, Texas – Guilford College’s women’s cross country team placed 23rd among 30 teams at the NCAA Division III South/Southeast Regional Championships Saturday. The Quakers scored 597 points at the meet and matched the program’s best regional finish in school history. Saturday’s race determined the regions’ team and individual contestants in next week’s national championship race in Wisconsin.

Guilford sophomore Anne Mogavero completed the six-kilometer course in 24 minutes, 45.4 seconds, which placed 41st in the 197-runner field. She narrowly missed all-region recognition, which is awarded to the top 36 finishers. Freshman Jasmine O’Neill ran a 26:13.3, which placed 95th individually. The Quakers’ Annie Motta was 149th in 28:07 and teammate Emily Cash (28:45.6) came in 157th to close out Guilford’s scorers.

Mary Baldwin College’s Sophia Stone won the individual race (22:10.1) by five seconds over Emory University’s Tess Gallegos (22:15.5). Gallegos helped the Eagles (45 points) to the team title and a spot in the NCAA Championships. Rhodes College finished second in the field with 86 points.
