(GREENSBORO, N.C.) — In the final game of the season and the careers of 18 Greensboro College seniors, The Pride football team fell to Methodist at home on Saturday, 31-14. Greensboro raced out to a 14-7 lead but saw the Monarchs score the final 24 points to close out the win.
John Flanagan opened the scoring with a 27-yard touchdown run midway through the first quarter to put Methodist on top 7-0.
The Pride answered with an eight play, 73-yard drive that resulted in a two-yard touchdown completion from Ryan Throndset to Tripp Honeycutt. Joe Langmeyer tacked on the extra point to knot the score at 7-7 with 4:08 to play in the first quarter.
After a fumble recovery set-up Greensboro with great field position on its next drive, Warren Scott worked his way into the endzone from ten yards out to take the lead at 14-7 with 2:26 on the clock.
The Monarchs scored the lone touchdown of the second quarter as Vaughn Cross caught a 26-yard touchdown pass from Max Reber to send the game into halftime tied at 14-14.
The third quarter featured a defensive stalement. Methodist finally broke the ice with 2:55 remaining in the frame on a blocked punt that resulted in a 22-yard touchdown return.
Tyler Mosko added a 21-yard field goal midway through the final quarter and Cross recorded his second touchdown reception of the day from 33-yards out to conclude the scoring with 5:02 to go in the game.
The Pride outgained the Monarchs on the day 326-291. Greensboro picked up 103 yards on the ground and 223 through the air. The Pride also held a 34:32-24:13 advantage in time of possession.
Scott led the rushing attack with 69 yards on 19 carries and one touchdown. Throndset, meanwhile, added 223 yards and a score on 26 of 42 passing. Dexter Russell Jr. and Scott each grabbed a game high eight receptions. Russell finished with 96 yards receiving while Scott added 56.
Defensively, Julian Cinotti, Allen Stallings and Travis Welch each contributed a game high seven tackles. All three players had one tackle for loss while Cinotti and Stallings notched one sack.
