High School Basketball Hoopfest from Saturday

Championhsip Game of the Hoopfest:

New Garden Friends School 87
Shining Light Academy 70

Nolan Morganstern with 28 points for NGFS and he was the MVP of the tournament….Keemon Ingram added 19 for NGFS and Adam Coble chipped in 12 for the NGFS cause…..For Shining Light they had Ryan Crumpton with 17, Caleb Robinson was there for 15 points and Matthew Jeffries and Andrew Robinson pumped in 11 each for SLA…….

NGFS will be a contender this year and one of our early boys private school basketball polls may have Wesleyan and Greensboro Day tied for #1, High Point Christian Academy at #3, Caldwell Academy at #4 and New Garden Friends at #5…..

Caldwell Academy and High Point Christian will meet this Tuesday night at HPCA at 5:30 amd I guess that is the girls at 5:30pm and then the boys to follow……HPCA has Michael Obacha and Chuck Obogdo inside and Caldwell has Matt Uchedike and Imeka along with another new Nigerian and the paint will be crowded with a lot of putback/blocked shot attempts coming up in this matchup……Caldwell at High Point Christian on Tuesday night and the difference may the depth of HPCA at guard…….Williams, Kent, Gill, Baldwin and a few more…..Check it all out Tuesday night at HPCA, with Caldwell coming in for a war in the paint and HPCA looking to own the arc………

  1. Also Wesleyan has its first game of the season against Cary Academy on Tuesday. The game starts at seven.

  2. GDS starts its season at home on Tuesday against North Raleigh Christain. The games start at 5:30pm for the girls and 7pm for the boys.

  3. I heard the Day School had some players that were 6’4, 6’6, 6’7 that were going to make them good on the defensive end. I can’t wait to see them play on Tuesday night to see what they are really like. With all the other private schools improving in talent, this ought to make to Day School work even harder to succeed. I am really think they will be just as good as always because of their coaching staff. They undoubtedy have the best basketball coacching staff than any high school coaching staff in the area. I know Freddie Johnson is the head, but who are their 2 assistants that everyone talks about.

  4. Not laying out any dis, but will the Wesleyan-Cary/GDS-North Raleigh games even be close??? The HPCA-Caldwell game ought to be a tight game…..What do others say/think????? Maybe I am wrong….Mr. Basketball, as they used to call me, has been wrong before….I do know that Matt and Emeka will be ready for Chuck and Michael…..All good players, but this should be a very good early test for HPCA…..How far can those Cougars go this year and how far has Caldwell Academy come since last season???

  5. Morgenstern had 55 points for the tourney! Young kid can ball! NGFS is small and quick. Obi-Rapu and Ingram can hit threes from anywhere. Give them some experience and they will be okay. My Knights will rebound as well. Just a bit more discipline and patience and our young team will be ready for the next level. So proud of Matt and Ryan and everyone who played hard despite the scoreboard.

  6. Honestly no, I don’t think the GDS or the Wesleyan games will be close but it will be the first time the two schools have a chance to showcase their talent. And anyone who loves basketball could enjoy watching perhaps the two best teams in the area. On to the High Point Christian game. Caldwell’s bigs will be able to keep Ogbodo and Obacha in check, but Manning is Caldwell’s only very talented guard. I feel like HPCA will be able to beat Caldwell because HPCA’s guards are not only good but numerous.

  7. You are so right and on the money with valid points about Wesleyan and Greensboro Day…..First time out for new players such as Pinson, Dillard, Chapman, Sampal and others at each school……

    The season is upon us….

  8. It is about time. I LOVE high school basketball, perhaps more than college basketball, and it is finally in full swing again
